Abstract

A model boat using one or more square sails on one or more masts, has its sails (G) controlled by the mast or the core of the mast (D and E), which is rotatable by means of motor (B). The yards (f) are rigidly fixed to the mast or the core of the mast. <IMAGE>

Description

Improvements to Model Sailing Boats.
This invention relates to a simple method of sail control on a square rigged model boat.
The square rigged model boat has been hampered in the past by the complicated rigging needed to adjust the sails to catch the wind or control them in any way as in the full size ship.
By fixing the yards supporting the sails rigidly to a mast or the core of the mast, which itself can be rotated by a remote control operating a mechanical device i.e. an electric motor.
The sails can be moved to the appropriate position for sailing without the need for complicated running rigging.
Referring to the drawings, Fig 1 shows the general layout of a two masted square rigged model boat. Fig.2 is a plan of the boat showing the arcs through which the masts, yards and sails move in order to take advantage of the wind.
Fig. 3 shows a section through the boat: A. Hull of the boat.
B. Electric motor.
C. Deck.
D. Mast.
F. Yard.
G. Sail.
In this example the entire mast rotates.
Fig. 4 shows a similar example, but this time the core of the mast "E" rotates moving the yards "F" which are attached to it, leaving the mast 'D' stationary.

Claims (3)

Claims.

2.) A square rigged model sailing boat as in claim 1, wherein the core of the mast only rotates to move the yards and sails.
3.) A nodel sailing boat substantially as described herein with reference to figures 1-4 of the accompanying drawings.
