Ventilators.-A ventilator of the construction described in Specification 217,802 is provided with means for rendering it ineffective in inclement weather. As shown in Fig. 1, the means comprise a hit-and-miss arrangement in which the sliding shutter a is actuated by cords c attached to a knob c<1> on the shutter a, and passing over pulleys b, b<1> on the end supports a<3> of the fixed shutter a<2>. In the modification, Fig. 4, the ventilator e is secured at an angle in a pivoted frame f which can be swung out of the way of the upper sash by a cord l. A cord or chain r secured to the bottom rail k<1> of the upper sash and passing round pulleys t in a tube s on the sill v can be attached to a hook w on the lower sash so that the upper sash is automatically lowered by raising the lower sash. The upper sash may be raised automatically by raising the lower sash by disconnecting the cord r and allowing the spring bolt k<2> to engage in the recess y in the slotted tube o on the upper sash.
