Abstract
A hanger comprising a body for suspending an article, the body being formed from a sheet material so as to have a profile including attachment formations to which the article may be attached, and a suspension member 34 attached to the body for suspending the body from a support. The hanger, which is especially suited to clothes, is preferably a blank folded along a centre line, the suspension device being a hook attached separately. <IMAGE>
Description
A HANGER
The present invention relates to a hanger, in particular a display hanger for suspending articles for display at a point of sale. The articles may be for example, garrnents such as underwear, swimwear, tops and vests.
Display hangers are usually moulded from plastics material and have little or no flat areas to enable text or graphics to be printed thereon for providing information regarding the nature of the displayed article or the supplier.
Accordingly, it is the general practice to attach to the hanger additional components such as tags for providing display information.
These tags may be in the form of printed card or plastics material.
It is the general aim of the present invention to provide a hanger which can incorporate a relatively large display area for printed information and graphics and so removes the necessity for the provision of a separate information carrying component.
According to the present invention there is provided a hanger comprising a body for suspending an artide, the body being formed from a sheet material so as to have a profile including attachment formations to which the article may be attached, and a suspension member attached to the body for suspending the body from a support.
Preferably the sheet material is card which may be laIninated with plastics film. Use of card enables the body to be produced in high quantities by cutting of blanks from sheets of card and enables the profile of thc blank to be readily changed to suit n particular article to be suspend Preferably the suspension member is a separate component attached to the body. The suspension member may be in the form of a hook made from a plastics material. The hook described in UK Patent 2198782 is a suitable hook for attachment to the body.
Preferably the body is formed from two superimposed layers of said sheet material which are preferably joined to one another about a fold line.
Preferably an aperture is provided adjacent to the fold line to enable the suspension member to be inserted therethrough such that a base part of the suspension member is located in between said two superimposed layers.
Preferably the superimposed layers are cobextensive and have the same profile.
Tbe superimposed layers are preferably secured together in face to face contact by adhesive, preferably a hot melt adhesive.
According to another aspect of the present invention there is provided a blank formed from sheet material for forming said body referred to above.
Various aspects of Che present invention are hereinafter be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a diagrammatic view of a hanger body blank according to the present invention;
Figure 2 shows th: blank of Figure 1 after folding.
Figure 3 shows a display hanger according to the present invention formed from the blank shown in Figure 1.
The display hanger 40 shown in Figure 3 comprises a body lOb formed from a sheet material and a suspension member 30 attached to the body lOb.
Figure 1 shows a blank lOa formed from a foldable relatively rigid material such as card to be used in forming the display hanger 40 of the present invention. The thickness of the card is chosen taking into account the rigidity of the body lOb required in supporting an article to be displayed. For example, the longer the body or the greater the weight of the article then generally the thicker the card. It is envisaged that for most applications a card such as box board in the range of 500-1000 microns, more preferably of thickness 600 microns to 900 riiicrons.would be suitable for forming the blank 10a.
The card is cut or stamped out to form a profile of the blank I 0a.
Thc profile of the blank 10a comprises attachment formations in the form of a plurality of hook formations 15,16 symmet ally opposed about a central fold line 11 such that when folded along the central fold line 11 forms the elongate body 1 Ob shown in Figure 2 of the open hanger 40.
The hook formations 15,16 serve to enable articles to be displayed, such as garments, to be attached to the body. Hook formations 15 are located on the upper part of the body and are adapted to support garments having shoulder straps, such as for example, bras or vests. Hook formations 15 have a shoulder portion 18 that help to guide, for example, the strap of a garment into an associated slot 19. Also provided on the base of the body lOb are recesses 17 into which straps of a garment may be retained after wrapping around the width of the body lOb.
Hook formations 16 are located at opposite ends of the body are are primarily intended to support an elasticated opening of a garment, for example, the opening defined by an elasticated waist band of underpantslknickers. The knickers are attached to the body lOb by stretching the elasticated waist band over the length of the body lOb and introducing the waist band into slots 20 associated with hooks 16.
Although the body is shown including both hook formations 15,16 it will be appreciated that the body may include only hook formations 15 or 16.
As an alternative or addition to having hook formations 15 16 the body lOb may have attachment formations defined by apertures formed inboard of the outer periphery of the body.
In the embodiment shown, the body lOb is approximately 300mm in length. However, it will be appreciated that the length may be varied, for example, for a display hanger it is envisaged that the length will usually be within the range of l3Omm-SlOmm.
The body 10b is formed of two superimposed layers of card 13 joined by fold 11 and a support member 30 is attached to tlle body so as to be located between the superimposed layers.
The plastics hook 30 shown is described in our earlier application
GB 2198782 and will therefore not be discussed in depth in this application although other forms of support member may be used.
The hook 30 is attached to the body by virtue of its base portion 31 through an aperture 12 located adjacent to the fold line 11.
Preferably the two superimposed layers are of the same size and profile although the profiles may be different. In this respect one of the layers 13 could have the profile shown whilst the other layer 13 may be of a reduced size to serve as a flap adapted to receive support member 30.
It is also envisaged that by the use of a different type of hook the body may be formed from a single layer of card.
I)uring folding of the blank 10a an adhesive layer such as hot melt adhesive may be applied to the inner surfaces of layers 13 of the blank 10a in order to hold the two halves of the boay 10b together. Prior to adhering the two halves 13 of the body 10b the hook 30 is inserted into aperture 12.
The outer surfaces of layers 13 of the, body lOb form display surfaces and are of a substantial area in order to provide a large graphic display area. The display surfaces of layers 13 will normally havc indicia/graphics applied thereto prior to folding the blank lOa and may contain information such as price, size and supplier of the garment.
When the layers 13 are of identical profile and size, it is possible to apply the same printing on each layer so that the assembled body has an identical front and rear face.
It will be appreciated that alternative profile shapes of body 10b may be easily adopted depending on a particular garment to be supported.
