Abstract

Adhesion of active ingredients to the skin is enhanced by including polybutene (or its homologues) in the preparation. Udder grease, insect repelling gel and a composition for treating bruising, cuts etc. are exemplified.

Description

A SYSTEM FOR THE ENHANCEMENT OF THE ADHESION (F ACTIVE ( AND OTHER ) CHEMICAL COMPOUNDS/ELLEMENTS TO THE SKIN AND/OR TISSUES OF ANIMALS.
This invention relates to @ system for the enhancement of the adhesion of active ( and other ) chemical compounds/elements to the skin and/or tissues or animals for the purposes of treatment end/or prevention of veterinery ( medical ) conditions, illnesses, diseases, deficiencies or depletion., and for protective, general veterinary treatment and nutritional purposes.
Many problems arise in the care of domestic livestock and pets, and wild animals ( where appropriate - iea- zoological gardens, wildlife parks and game parks etc. ), where it is important to the maintainence of the good health of the animal that one or more chemical componds and/or elements should be applied to the skin nd/or tiouec of the animal. A prime of example of such is the necessity to apply fly repellant (s) to the udders of dairy ( and suckler ) cows during their dry ( non-lactating ) periods in order to prevent the spread of the udder disease(s) commonly known as HASTITIS, which are spread from cow to cow by means of flying insects.
MASTITIS infections cc-only ceuse loss ( by the cows infected ) of the ability to produce milk and ( frequently ) the death of the cow eo infected - which, in c.rtsin circumstances, can ontail a lose of 10 30 per cent of the potential productivity (milk production) of a deiry herd in any one year.
It is, therefore, of economic fnporturcs to those business interests which incur the care of animals/livestock that any chemical compound and/or element used for such protective/treatment/maintainance of good health of the animals should adhere in an officacecus manner to the skin and/or tissues of the particular animal (s) to which it is applied, and, at the site where it is applied for such Z period of time as to successfully achieve its purpose and to be economically viable in general usage.
According to the prevent invention there is provided a method whereby preparations of active and/or other chemical compounds and/or elements can be made to adhere successfcully to animal skin and/or ti@sues at those paticular sites to which they are so applied; and to so remain for such periods of time that the purpose of use of such comical compounds and/or elements may be successfully achieved within the parameters of economic viability.
According to the present invention the organic-chemical, hydrocarbonbased chemical group - PDLYBUTENES and/or their homologues - may be used to enhance and increase the adhesive properties of active ( and other ) chemical compounds and/or elements by means of inclusion into the formulation of, and mixing with, the preparation to be used; either alone or in conjunction and combination with other chemical compounds and/or elements which may be either of organic or inorganic classification.
The advantages to the use of polybutenes and/or their homologues for such purposes is that: 1. A@hesion of the chemical compounds and/or elements is improved.
2. Compatibility with most chemical compounds/elements is readily and easily achieved.
3. Polybutanes and/or their homologues possess very low toxicity to mammals end/or other animels; and by safely be used in the presence of unprotected living tissue, body fluids end/or food substences with minimal problems in respect to toxicity or irritability.
EXAMPLES.
EXAMPLE No. 1.
An insect-repellant gel made by mixing together 85 % volume/volume of POL VBUTENE plus 15 % volume/volume of N,N-DIETHYL-META-TOLUAMIDE plus colouring agent, and sold as en adhering insect repellent for application to the udders of dry ( non-lactatsting ) cows to help to prevent the spread of mastitis infections, which are normally vectored by flying insects.
EXAMPLE NO. 2.
An udder gresse, for application to the udders of cows, made by mixing 25 % volume/volume of POLYBUTENE into a suitable udder grease formulation ( yellow or white soft paraffin plus active ingredients ); end demonstrating ennanced adhesion in respect to udder greases made only of paraffins plus active ingredients - particularly in respect to adhesion in warm/hot/wet weather conditions.
EXAMPLE No. 3.
A synthetic skin spray/spray bandage for covering and protecting cuts, bruises and abrssions in animal skin ( and to enhance healing and to help to limit the development of infections ), made by mixing 25 % volume/volume of POLYBUTENE with 70 % volume/volume of synthetic scrylate resin solution ( in a auitable organic solvent ) or collodion, plus 5 % volume/volume of anti-bacterial agents plus colouring agents.
It is emphasized that the invention includes, but is not limited to, the examples enumerated above.
The invention includes all all sohesive formulations including and involving the use and/or utilisation of polybutenes and polybutens homologues for application to animel skin and/or tissues.
