Abstract
A portable gun support has a support post 20 with a spike 21 which can be driven into the ground to hold the support post upright and be self supporting. A foot step 22 is provided to ease the task of driving the spike, into the ground and various fixtures or attachments e.g. a butt support or barrel support (23 to 28 - not shown) can be used to attach the gun, accessories or clothing in a convenient position clear of the ground. The gun support can be easily withdraw from the ground and transported manually by means of a shoulder sling 29 or carrying handles 30. After the gun support has been used, the spike and attachments may be removed for easier transport and storage. <IMAGE>
Description
PORTABLE GUN SUPPORT
This invention relates to a portable gun and/or accessory support.
During most shooting pastimes the person shooting spends considerable time waiting, and normally the gun is either held by the shooter, which is tiring, or deposited on the ground, which could damage the firearm or cause it to malfunction with possible dangerous consequences. The portable gun support has been designed to hold the gun in a clean upright easily accessible position and also provide the possible facility to hold any accessories or clothing in a convenient position clear of the ground during times when they are not in use.
According to the present invention there is provided a portable gun and accessory support comprising a post which provides the means of support, a pin or spike at the bottom to drive into the ground to allow the support to stand upright without additional support, a foot step to allow the user to use his foot to drive the spike into the ground, a shoe, protrusion or fastener to support the weight of the gun, clips, rings or ties to hold the gun or gun slip to the support post, a fixture or fitting at the top to hold the gun or accessories, and a tie, clip, or fixture to hold the gun or gun slip in position on the support during use, transit, or storage.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example to the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 Shows in perspective, the basic support without a gun
on the support.
Figure 2 Shows the support with a gun slip attached and a gun
housed in the slip.
Figure 3 Shows the support with a gunslip attached, a gun housed
in the slip with ties and fittings to connect the slip
firmly to the support for ease of carrying.
Figure 4 Shows the gun slip firmly clipped to the support to
replace the support bracket and fittings.
Figure 5 Shows the gun fitted to the support with restraints and 6 without using a gun slip.
Figure 7 Shows a support post with a suitably shaped shoe to
house the gun without the use of a slip.
Figure 8 Shows the support as shown in fig.7 with a weatherproof
cover over the top of the shoe and gun.
Figure 9 Shows the support with the spike removed and clipped to
the outside of the support for storage and transit.
Figure 10 Shows the support with the spike removed and retracted
into the tubular body of the support for storage and
transit.
Referring to the drawing the support comprises a solid or tubular post 20 and a fixed, removable, or retractable spike 21.
In order to provide support for the gun and accessories it is necessary to drive the spike into the ground thus allowing the support to stand upright without further support.
In order to drive the spike into the ground the user is provided with a foot step 22 which will allow the user to stand on the support and use his or her weight to drive the spike home.
In order to support the gun, accessories, holdalls, clothing etc.
the support may be provided with a slot, hook, saddle or clip 23 on the main post to allow the above items to be restrained.
In order to support the weight of the gun the support post may be provided with a support shoe 24, restraint 25 or fastener 26 to attach the gun or gun slip firmly to the support post.
In order to protect the gun from inclement weather a gun slip 27 may be attached to the support to house the gun or a weatherproof hood 28 could be fitted over the gun holding shoe.
In order to make the support easily transportable when in use it may be fitted with a shoulder sling 29, or carrying handle 30 or utilise the shoulder sling 31 fitted to a gunslip when used.
In order to make the support easier to store or handle in transit it may be fitted with a removable or retractable spike 32 which can be clipped or fitted to the outside of the support or retracted into the inside of the support post.
