Abstract
227,622. Martini, E. Jan. 9, 1924. Gauging-apparatus.-A device for measuring -the lengths of the limbs of bent pipes comprises two bars 2, 3 pivoted together at 8, a rod 13 - mounted on the same pivot, and two scales 15, 16 pivoted on a pin on a sleeve 14 which slides on the rod 13. A pointer 10 on the bar 2 moves over a scale 9 on the bar 3. The bars are arranged tangentially to the limbs of the pipe 1, the angle between them being indicated by the pointer 10. The rod 13 is then set, with the aid of a pointer 12 upon it, to bisect the angle, and is clamped in position. The sleeve 14 is now moved along the rod until its distance from the bar 3 as measured by the scale 15 is equal to one-half the diameter of the pipe together with the thickness of any supporting members 17, 18 which may be used. The centre of the sleeve 14 is thus positioned at the point of intersection of the middle axes of the pipe limbs, and the lengths of the limbs may be measured by the scale, 16. The scale may be turned on its pivot pin so as to enable measurements to be made on the other limb. The pivot pin may be adjustably mounted in the sleeve 14, and the supports 17, 18, which are used when flanged pipes - are being measured, may also be adjustable. In a modification the sleeve 14 and the pivot pin carried by it are adjusted in position by hand - wheels and gearing.
