Abstract

A wheel lock and immobilising device consist of two parts 2L and 2R which can be lacked together by a double locking system either of which locks secures the device but both must be released to remove it. Each part 2L and 2R includes a loop 1L, 1R which completely enwraps the wheel and tyre in such a manner that the device cannot be removed if the tyre is deflated or removed. When fitted the device covers the wheel centre and wheel nuts. The two parts 2L and 2R can fold flat making the parts compact and easily stowed. The device is adjustable to fit more than one wheel size. <IMAGE>

Description

MHZL LOCRS AND IMMOBILISING EVI This invention relates to a device for locking and immobilising a wheel on a vehicle preventing it being rotated or removed thus immobilising the vehicle.
There are many such devices of varying construction and efficiency.
The simpler ones are usually not difficult to remove by thieves and those more substantial and difficult to remove are usually heavy, clumsy and not simple to fit.
Many can be removed if the tyre is deflated or cut off and the weakness in many cases is in the method of locking especially where simple padlocks are used.
According to the present invention there is a wheel locking and imnobilising device which consists of two parts which are simple to fit and lock.
Each part completely enwraps the wheel and when locked together the device cannot be removed even if the tyre is deflated or cut off.
The locking is by a double locking system. Both locks must be unlocked to remove the device but either of the two locks is sufficient to secure it.
The locks are positioned so that they are not easily accessible to be broken open.
The wheel centre, nuts and disc are completely covered by the device.
The device can be adjustable to fit a range of wheel sizes and fitted with projections to prevent the wheel turning on the ground.
The two parts of the d2vice can be folded to make them more compact and easily stowed.
A specific ssiediment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows in perspective the device separated in two parts and the method of locking together.
Figure 2 shows a front elevation of the device when fitted to a wheel and tyre.
Figure 3 shows a cross section of the double locking unit.
Figure 4 shows detail of the inner lock slide.
Figure 5 shows the inner lock slide entered in to the outer slide and cover plate and shows the position of the lock bolts and key holes Referring to the drawing, the locking and immobilising device consists of 2 main plates 2L and 2R, Fig 1 to each of which is attached a tubular steel loop IL and IR.
On plate 2L is mounted an outer cover plate 4 containing parts 5/1 and 5/2 and 6/1 and 6/2 and 7 as shown in Fig 3 into which can be inserted an inner lock slide 3 which is fixed to plate 2R.
Figure 3 shows a cross section at x.x. on Fig 2.
When the slide 3 is inserted into this socket and pushed home, plates 2L and 2R are together and lock bolts 6/1 and 6/2 can be pressed home and secured by sprung catches which are not shown. When thus locked the wheel nuts and disc are covered and protected. The bolts 6/1 and 6/2 which are of hardened steel, pass through components 3, 4 and 7 fig. 3. Either of the two bolts secure the device but both must be released to enable the device to be removed: unlocking is by key, the position of the key barrel is shown at 9 fig. 5.
On Fig 3 bolt 6/1 is shown in locked position and bolt 6/2 in the unlocked position.
The two tubular loops 1L & 1R enwrap the tyre Fig 2 and are spaced closely enough together to prevent them being removed over the wheel centre if the tyre is deflated or removed.
The tubular loops can be fitted with feet at ground level Fig 2, 10L & 10R to prevent the wheel being rotated while on the ground.

Claims (7)

1. A wheel locking and immobilising device consisting of two parts which can be secured over a vehicle tyred wheel and locked together by a double locking arrangement.
2. A wheel locking and immobilising device as in Claim 1 where two parts can each enwrap the wheel and tyre and be locked together and are simple to fit.
3. A wheel locking and imnobilising device as in Claim 1 where the two parts are secured by a projecting slide on one part engaging in a socket on the other part and is secured by two locks.
4. A wheel locking and imnobilising device as in Claims 1 & 3 where the locking is by double locks either of which secures the device but both locks must be unlocked to release it.
5. A wheel locking and immobilising device as in Claims 1 & 4 which can be locked by simply pressing in two hardened steel bolts but can only be unlocked by key. The position of the key holes being positioned so as to make access difficult for unlocking or breaking other than by key.
6. A wheel locking and immobilising device as in Claim 1 which is designed so that the two loops enwrapping the wheel and tyre will prevent removal of the device if the tyre is deflated or cut off.
7. A wheel locking and imobilising device as in Claim 1 where two projections at ground level prevent the wheel being rotated on the ground while the device is fitted.
