Abstract

An electrographic process cartridge 1 includes a demountable toner cartridge 2 with seal which may be removed while positioned within the process cartridge using tab 4. The toner cartridge may be refilled and replaced. <IMAGE>

Description

DEMOUNTABLE CARTRIDGE SYSTEM This Invention relates to a demountable cartridge system for use with electrographic process cartridges.
Electrographic process cartridges are print modules commonly used in various types of laser printer, copier and plain paper fax machines, which are usually a once used disposed of item.
According to this invention there is provided a demountable cartridge containing a print medium such as toner (ink), which resides adjacent to the developer inechanism of an electrographic process cartridge.
A specific embodiment of this invention will now be described by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows in perspective an electrographic process cartridge with a demountable toner cartridge in position, where 1. shows an electrographic process cartridge.

Referring to the drawing, an electrographic process cartridge is adapted in such a way by those skilled in the art to accept a demountable toner cartridge which is retained within the body of the former by for example a clip, catch or similar means (not shown) In order to remove a demountable toner cartridge exhausted of its contents and to facilitate the installation of a new cartridge, a mechanism such as apull tab, grip or similar device is provided (not shown).
There is provided a mechanism which facilitates the release of print medium such as toner (ink), from a demountable cartridge to the developer within the confines of an electrographic process cartridge.
There is an optional facility whereby those skilled in the art may adapt an electrographic process cartridge to accomodate a demountable toner collection assembly in order to facilitate the disposal of excess print medium such as toner (ink), such assembly to be contained within and adjacent to the cleaning station mechanism of the process cartridge.

Claims (3)

1) A demountable toner cartridge, a body in the form of a container, means for releasably securing the body within the confines of an electrographic process cartridge.
The latter adapted by those skilled in the art to provide access and containment.
2) A demountable toner cartridge as claimed in claim 1 with an hermetically sealed aperture, means of removing the seal from an exposed position remote from the aperture to facilitate the release of the cartridge contents within the confines of an electrographic process cartridge.
3) A demountable toner cartridge as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 with a round aperture to facilitate the charging of the cartridge with a suitable print medium such as toner sealed within by a bung, cap or other similar means (not shown).
