Abstract
A Golf Club Shaft which is made from two or more tubes of composite material and joined together to create an accurate and consistent flex by varying the combination of tubes according to the flex characteristics required. The tubes may be formed of polymers and carbon fibres.
Description
CONSISTENT FLEX COMPONENT GOLF SHAFT
I Gordon Tilley, an expert in Carbon fibre and having extensive knowledge of its use in Golf Shafts and clubs hereby apply for a patent for a Golf
Shaft constructed of two or more tubes of composite material, usually incorporating carbon fibres or similar materials in a polymer for light weight and strength.
The first tube is a diameter suitable for fitting into the head of a golf club and is of variable length, usually parallel along its length for consistency of flex, so that the length of tube will determine how much flex is delivered along its length. This tube is inserted into a larger tube of which the inside diameter is similar to the first tube outside diameter and allows the first tube to be secured inside by various methods.
This can be repeated in several stages if a very stiff shaft is desired.
This type of golf shaft will provide an infinitely variable flex along its length by the combination of different diameter tubes and can be easily and accurately specified. It can also be supplied in component form for cutting to length by individuals who require different or unusual flex points with accurate measuring points. Every different golf club in a set requires a different length shaft but a consistent flex throughout the set.
This can be easily achieved by using 'given flex' components with only the length affecting the flex unlike a tapered shaft which varies in flex along its length according to the diameter, wall thickness and orientation of fibres. The component shaft eliminates these variables and provides an easily measurable and accurate shaft flex.
Claims (6)
1. A Golf Club Shaft constructed of two or more tubes of composite material of variable lengths, dimensions and flex characteristics joined together in various combinations to provide a complete shaft with accurate, easily measured and consistent flex characteristics according to the arrangement of the various tubes.
2. A Golf Club Shaft as described in Claim 1 wherein the various tubes are parallel along their length.
3. A Golf Club Shaft as described in Claim 1 or Claim 2 where the tubes are made of Carbon Fibre or similar materials in a polymeric bonding agent.
4. A Golf Club Shaft supplied in component form made from a Composite of
Polymers and reinforcing fibres in various diameters and lengths for joining together to form a complete shaft with required flex characteristics.
5. A Golf Club Shaft as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 or Claim 3 or Claim 4 wherein the flex of the completed shafts can be matched exactly to give a consistent flex throughout different overall lengths of the completed Shaft.
Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows 1.
6. A Golf Club Shaft according to Claim 1 further comprising a head provided at tip end.
