Abstract

A needle, in particular for use in surgery, is coloured and/or fluorescent, either by being made of a coloured and/or fluorescent material or having coloured and/or fluorescent material applied to it, so that it is more easily visible during use.

Description

AN EASILY VISIBLE NEEDLE This invention relates to an easily visible needle.
Current surgical and veterinary practice involves many procedures operating deep within the body cavities. There have been many developments to increase the amount of light transmitted to such areas. However, one of the major technical restrictions is the poor visibility of the metal needles used.
Despite increasing the incident light, the small point and shaft of the needle is often not clearly seen, once the needle is inserted into and through the tissues. This is due to its colour, shape and size.
According to the present invention there is provided a needle that is coloured and/or fluorescent, so that it is more easily visible during its use.

1 A needle that is coloured and/or fluorescent, so that it is more easily visible during its use.
2 A needle as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the needle is made of a coloured and/or fluorescent material.
3 A needle as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2, wherein the needle has coloured and/or fluorescent material applied to it.
