Abstract
A putting practice aid comprises a base 1 to which are secured two parallel L-shaped rails 3 for guiding a putter during a practice stroke. Slots 6 provided in the base 1 allow the distance between the two rails 3 to be adjusted so that the aid can be used with different sized putters. A line 10 extends between, and parallel to, the rails 3 to indicate the desired path of the ball and the sweet spot of the putter. Both sides of the base 1 can be covered with fabric. Rubber feet can also be attached to the underneath of the base 1. In another embodiment, the two rails 3 are adjustably connected together so that the aid can be used without the base 1. <IMAGE>
Description
GOLFING AID
This invention relates to equipment for improving technique and practising the putting stroke as used in the game of golf.
Golf aids are well known as equipment designed to improve technique or assist practise. Most equipment available for putting provides a target for aiming at and returnina a golf ball and is useful for practise. This equipment is designed to improve the technique of a putting stroke by providing two parallel ' rails ' within which the putter blade may move back and forward . while ensuring the blade remains at right angles to the intended line of the putt.
The equipment is suitable for different sizes of putter and for use both indoors and outside.
This invention provides a base to be placed on the floor carpet or putting surface . To the base is attached two parallel L shaped ' rails '. secured by bolts and wing nuts with an adjustable means of altering the position of the rails. keeping them parallel to each other and the central line marked down the middle of the base. and at right angles to the sloping edge of the base. The latter is provided with four identical grooves cut in to the base . each being of two widths . the top half of each groove being wide enough to take a bolt with a thread of 4/5 mm in diameter and the lower half of the groove being wide enough ( 10 mm) to hold the head of the bolt. The lower half of the groove has a depth of 2mm to ensure the bolt head does not protrude and allows the base to lie flat. The base is of sufficeint weight to remain stationary. if touched by the putter while being moved back and forth . as in a practise putt.
The specific invention will now be described by way of an example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which
Figure 1 shows a top down view of the base with L shaped
rails
Figure 2 illustrates the base turned upside down and the
four grooves
Figure 3 illustrates one of the grooves in the cross
section of the base;and
Figure 4 shows one of the two L shaped rails
Referring to the drawings the golf aid comprises a flat base 1 with a gradient at one edge 2 . To the top of the base are fitted two L shaped rails 3.each fastened by two bolts 4 and wing nuts 5 . and capable of being adjusted at different distances from each other to accommodate various sizes of putter.
The rails are designed to slide along the grooves 6 by slackening off the wing nuts . and retightening without having to lift the base and hold the bolt heads . The latter are prevented from rotating . when the wing nuts are being tightened by the width of the groove 7 in which the bolt head sits. as shown in figure 3.
Figure 2 shows the wider groove 8 and the narrower groove 9 as viewed from below the base.
Other examples of the invention are -The lower surface of the base would have rubber feet; -The lower surface of the base would have a fabric surface: -The upper surface of the base would be covered with a fabric: -The parallel L rails are held together by an adjustable fastener without a base.
Claims (11)
- A A golfing aid comprising a flat base for putting, sloped at one end, with a centre line and two L .shaped rails fixed to the base . between which the blade of a putter (as in the game ofgolf), can be moved first back and then forward keeping the blade at right angles to the line.
- 2. A golfing aid comprising a flat base for putting, . as claimed in Claim 1, sloped at one end by means to provide a smooth roll of a golf ball without deflection from the direction in which the ball has been putted.
- 3. A golfing aid comprising a flat base for putting as in Claim 1 or Claim 2, wherein a centre line provided by any means running parallel to the sides and one end of which ends at the slope.
- 4. A golfing aid comprising a flat base for putting as claimed in Claim 2 or Claim 3 to which means are provided for fixing the L shaped rails to the base, and adjusting the rails parallel to the centre line.
- 5. A golfing aid comprising a flat base for putting as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the L shaped rails are secured to the base by any means , allowing the rails to slide parrallel to the centre line and be secured to the base not necessarily at equal distances from the centre line.
- 6. A golfing aid comprising a flat base for putting as claimed in any preceding claim, with grooves in the base cut to allow a bolt to pass and wide enough to accomodate the bolt head.
- 7. A golfing aid comprising a flat base for putting as claimed in any preceding claim, with rubber bungs on the underside ofthe base to prevent the base slipping when used on a smooth surface.
- 8. A golfing aid comprising a flat base for putting as claimed in claim 6 or any preceding claim, with the underside of the base covered with a fabric to prevent the base slipping when used on a smooth surface.
- 9. A golfing aid comprising a flat base for putting as claimed in any preceding claim, having a fabric surface on the upper side.
- 10. A golfing aid comprising a means of supporting on the floor or other surface, two parallel rails with a means of adjusting the space between them (to hold the width of most putters ), without a base.
- 11. A doffing aid substantially as described herein with reference to figures 1-3, in the drawing accompanying Form 1/77
