Abstract

A snare has a free-running rocking eye (1) which is prevented from over-tightening by means of a permanently crimped stop (5). The rocking motion of the eye (6) allows it to loosen-off from the stop slightly, but prevents it from travelling back down the wire (4). <IMAGE>

Description

THE ROCKING SNARE EYE This invention relates to a humane fox snare.
Snares are cor=aol~ used for trapping foxes. They o?erate by restraining the animal by its neck until the trapper arrives to release or kill the animal. existing forms of snare often strangle their victims as they have no form of release mechanism and have nothing to restrict tightening. This can result in other non-target species being captured and distress to the fox.
This present invention prevents over-tightening of the snare by using a permanent crisped stop. This allows the animal to be held and prevents strangulation. The rocking action of the eye on the end of the cable allows relaxation of the snare but does not allow the snare tc spring back. It therefore prevents escape, A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure (1) shows an cblique view of the eye of the snare looped over the wire, Figure (2) illustrates the permanent crimped stop and the free rocking action of the eye pivoting about the cable, figure (3) shows the entire snare.
Referring to the drawings the snare consists of a free running rocking eye (1) - 10mm x14mm.2mm diameter 150cm long - attached to a wire (4) which is crimped (2) - 8mm (aluninium crimp) - having passed through two holes (3) - 3mm in diameters A permanent crimp (5) prevents the eye (1) from over tightening.
The wire (4) is then passed through the eye (1) forming a loop and on to a large swivel (7).
The snare is secured to the ground using the swivel (72 and is set in position.
As the fox puts its head through the loop the eye (1) passes along the wire (4) until it hits the permanent crimped stop (5)o The eye (1) then rocks slightly as shown in figure (2) allowing partial release of the loop, This rocking action (6) however prevents the snare from springing back.
The fox is therefore held humanely until the arrival of the trapper,

Claims (1)

  1. CLAIMS 10 A humane holding fox snare utilising a free-r'inning rockling eye which prevents it from over-tightening by a permanent crimped stop, allowing partial release, but preventing springing back, by utilisation of the rocking motion. This restrains the fox in a painless manner causing it the minimum of distress,
