Abstract
A bolt security device which consists of a washer (1), hardened steel bush (2) and hardened steel bucket (3) is placed onto a bolt (4). The bolt (4) is tightened into its fixture (5) using a socket. When tight the bucket (3) will spin freely. A padlock (6) is fitted through the holes in the bucket (3), thus making the head of the bolt (4) inaccessible to cutting with a saw or loosening with a socket or spanner. The bush (2) may stop at the surface of the fixture (5). A chain can be attached to the padlock (6), thus providing a secure fixing for restraining removable objects, eg. bikes and plant equipment. <IMAGE>
Description
BOLT SECURITY DEVICE
This invention relates to a bolt security device.
Bolts are widely used for attaching one component to another, but can also be easily removed.
According to the present invention there is provided a security device which, when fitted beneath the head of a bolt, a padlock can be fitted through the security device, thus making the head of the bolt inaccessible to cutting with a saw or loosening with a socket or spanner. A chain can be attached to the padlock and this will provide a secure fixing point for restraining removable objects, eg. bikes and plant equipment.
Referring to drawing (Fig. 1), the bolt security device comprises a washer (1), hardened steel bush (2), and hardened steel bucket (3), which are fitted onto the bolt (4). The bolt is screwed into the fixture:(5) and is tightened using a socket.
The bolt (4) and washer (1) tighten down against bush (2), allowing the bucket (3) to spin freely. A padlock (6) is fitted through the holes in the bucket (3), thus rendering the head of the bolt (4) inaccessible.
In addition to the invention as described above, an extended hardened bush can be fitted through the base of the security device which extends beneath the face of the surface to which the security device is mounted. This will protect the shank of the bolt or fixing from being cut if a blade was inserted between the underface of the security device and the surface to which it is mounted.
Referring to drawing (Fig. 2), the security device comprises a washer (1), bush (2), body (3) which are fitted onto a bolt or fixing (4). The bolt our fixing is screwed into the fixture (5) and is tightened.
The bush (2) protrudes past the underface of the body (3) and below the surface of the fixture (5), thus protecting the shank of the bolt or fixing from cutting. A lock (6) is fitted through two diametrically opposed holes in the body (3), thus rendering the head of the bolt or fixing (4) inaccessible.
Claims (13)
1) According to the present invention there is provided a
security device which, when fitted beneath the head of a
bolt or fixing, a lock can be fitted through the security
device, thus making the head of the tightened bolt or
fixing inaccessible to cutting with a saw or loosening with
a socket or a spanner.
2) The security device, as claimed in claim 1, can have a
hardened bush which, when fitted onto the bolt or fixing
and through the base of the security device, will extend
below the surface of the fixture, thus protecting the shank
of the bolt or fixing from cutting if a blade was inserted
between the base of the security device and the fixture.
3) A security device, as claimed in claim 1 and 2, can have a
'D' type cycle lock or padlock inserted through the body to
provide a secure fixing point for restraining removable
objects, eg. bikes and plant equipment.
Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows 1) A security device comprising a body having an aperture therein,
through which a bush extends, and attachment means to which
a lock can be attached, the bush being arranged to allow a
fixing means to be inserted, in use, through the aperture, and
to inhibit access to part of the fixing means once it has 'been
inserted and the lock being arranged, in use, to inhibit access
to another part of the fixing means.
2) A secutiry device according to claim 1 wherein the body has
a base and wall.
3) A security device according to claim 2 wherein the body is
bucket shaped.
4) A secutiry device according to claim 2 or 3 wherein the attach
ment means is located on the wall.
5) A security device according to claim 4 wherein the attachment
means comprises at least one bore through the wall to which a
lock may be attached.
6) A security device according to claim 5 wherein the attachment
means comprises two bores through the wall.
7) A security device according to claim 6 wherein the bores are
coaxial.
8) A security device according to any of claims 2 to 7 wherein
the aperture is located in the base.
9) A security device according to any preceding claim wherein the
aperture is a bore.
10) A security device according to any preceding claim wherein the
bush has a bore through which the fixing means can be inserted.
11) A security device according to any preceding claim wherein the
body is allowed in use to rotate freely about the bush.
12) A security device according to any preceding claim wherein the
lock is a 'D' type cycle lock.
13) A security device substantially as described herein with
reference to the accompanying drawings.
