Abstract
226,722. Bergin, A. A., (Ellenberger & Schrecker). April 15, 1924. Detanning.-Gelatine or glue is prepared from waste chrome leather by boiling the leather, without prior removal of the chromium or other special preliminary treatment, with a feebly alkaline solution in the presence of a magnesium compound. A suitable magnesium compound is caustic burnt magnesite, which may be added in the proportion of 1-2 per cent calculated on the raw material, and may itself give the required weak alkalinity.
