Abstract
In an artificial angling hook bait, bait substances, that due to their physical nature cannot be mounted on a hook, are contained in an absorbent fibre core which is retained within a membrane of fine mesh which is attached to the fish hook. A small quantity of the bait substance will leak off into the water thereby attracting the fish to the bait. If the fish touches the artificial hook bait, a higher concentration of the bait substance is displaced through the fine mesh membrane into the surrounding water thereby increasing its attractiveness to the fish. <IMAGE>
Description
ARTIFICIAL ANGLING HOOK BAIT
This invention relates to an artificial angling hook bait.
Angling hook baits are many and varied, consisting of a substance or an object that fish find sufficiently attractive or sufficiently palatable to take into their mouth as a potential food item.
Angling hook baits must be capable of being presented using rod and line and be sufficiently resilient to remain adhered to or adjacent to the hook while in use and be able to withstand the action of being cast with rod and line. Also being able to withstand periods of submersion in water without significantly altering their consistency, constituency or their attractiveness to the fish.
According to the present invention there is provided an artificial angling hook bait enabling the effective use of bait substances that cannot be cast or utilised in the normal manner with rod and line owing to either their: soft texture, liquid nature, being composed of particles too small to impale or affix to a hook or not being capable of being submersed in water without rapidly dissipating or dissolving.
The artificial hook bait comprises of an absorbent fibre core that has been soaked in or injected with such a bait substance.
This has a mesh of fine material stretched over it and secured to form a covered ball. The fine mesh material covering restricts the flow of water over the absorbent fibre core thereby maintaining the integrity of the bait substance contained within it, but at the same time allowing a small percentage to wash into the surrounding water thereby attracting the fish to the source.
When the artificial hookbait is touched or squeezed by the mouth of a fish, a higher concentration of the bait substance is displaced and therfore discharged through the mesh into the fish's mouth, thereby increasing its attractiveness.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:- Figure 1 shows a cross section of the artificial bait.
Referring to the drawing the artificial hook bait comprises of an absorbent fibre core (1) that is covered by a membrane of a fine mesh material (2) that is secured (3).
The bait substance is introduced to the absorbent fibre core either by soaking or by injection through the fine mesh material.
Claims (5)
1) An artificial angling hook bait comprising an absorbent fibre core containing a bait substance that cannot normally be utilised owing to its soft texture This is covered by a fine mesh material which retains the bait substance and the absorbent fibre core.
The bait substance being introduced to the absorbent fibre core either by soaking or by injection through the fine mesh material.
2) An artificial angling hook bait comprising an absorbent fibre core containing a bait substance that cannot normally be utilised owing to its liquid nature. This is covered by a fine mesh material which retains the bait substance and the absorbent fibre core. The bait substance being introduced to the absorbent fibre core either by soaking or by injection through the fine mesh material.
3) An artificial angling hook bait comprising an absorbent fibre core containing a bait substance that cannot normally be utilised owing to its being comprised of particles that are too small to impale or affix to a hook. This is covered by a fine mesh material which retains the bait substance and the absorbent fibre core. The bait substance being introduced to the absorbent fibre core either by soaking or by injection through the fine mesh material.
4) An artificial angling hook bait comprising an absorbent fibre core containing a bait substance that cannot normally be utilised owing to its not being capable of being submersed in water without rapidly dissipating or dissolving. This is covered by a fine mesh material which retains the bait substance and the absorbent fibre core. The bait substance being introduced to the absorbent fibre core either by soaking or by injection through the fine mesh material.
5) An artificial angling hook bait substantially as described herein with reference to Figure 1 of the accompanying drawing.
