Abstract

A hand tool device has a hollow annular member (1) having a diameter able to receive a finger and has attached to it, either integrally or detachably, a blade holder (4). The device may be a razor wherein an extension (12) extends from the outer surface of the member (10) and initially develops from the surface as a tangential extension from the hollow member and terminates in a cross piece (13). The extension (12) is arcuately curved and has a reinforcing web (12a). The cross piece (13) has outwardly directed flanges (14) in the nature of ribs which engage corresponding opposed channels (15) on the back surface of a blade holder (16). The hollow member (10) has internal longitudinally extending ribs (11) to prevent rotation around a finger when in use. <IMAGE>

Description

TITLE Hand Tools This invention relates to hand tools and is particularly concerned with a tool for scraping, shaving or paring. In a preferred embodiment this invention provides an razor device primarily for removing hair growth from skin.
According to this invention there is provided a hand tool device comprising a hollow member to receive a finger of a user, a blade holder mounted on the hollow member and a blade retained by the blade holder.
In a preferred construction the hollow member is tubular and the length thereof is such that the member may be gripped between joints of the finger by bending same. Cutaway parts may be provided at each end of the hollow member and positioned on the side opposed to that on which the blade holder is mounted. This provides rotational stability when gripped by the finger of a user.
In a further preferred construction, primarily for shaving, the hollow member or an extension thereof has a longitudinal rib profiled to engage a complementary profile of the blade holder whereby the blade holder may be slid over the rib affording easy replacement of the blade when required. Other means may be provided whereby the blade holder is detachably connected to the hollow member or an extension thereof. In another embodiment the hollow member and blade holder comprise an integral unit or moulding, the whole being disposable after use.
In a preferred arrangement the plane of the blade lies at an acute angle to a tangential plane of the hollow member which is tubular. A preferred embodiment has the hollow member connected by a stem with the blade holder whereby the holder is spaced away from the hollow member.
In a preferred embodiment the hollow member is annular and an extension, preferably curvilinear, develops tangentially from an external surface of said member and carries a cross piece at an end thereof remote from said member, the cross piece having profiled portions which may slidably engage a blade holder, said blade holder extending parallel to the longitudinal axis through the annular member.
In order to enable this invention to be more clearly understood reference is now made to an embodiment and a modification shown in the drawings as examples. In the drawings: Figure 1 shows a first construction in end view, Figure 2 shows the construction of Figure 1 looking in direction A, Figure 3 shows the construction of Figure 1 looking in direction B, Figure 4 shows a modification in side profile view, Figure 5 shows a perspective view of a preferred embodiment with a blade holder in position, and Figure 6 shows an alternative perspective view of the embodiment shown in Figure 5 but without the blade holder.
Referring to Figs 1 to 3 of the drawings there is shown a razor comprising a hollow member 1 of a plastics material having a through passage la with a longitudinally extending profiled rib 2 running along an upper outside surface. The rib 2 is adapted to engage a profiled recess 3 in a blade holder 4, for example a conventional razor blade unit. The rib 2 is engaged with recess 3 by a longitudinal sliding action. The blade holder, in this example, has twin blades 5.
The under-side of the hollow body 1 has cut outs 5 and 6 at each end and these facilitate gripping by flexure of the joints of a finger (first finger) inserted in the hollow member and as illustrated by Figure 3.
Figure 4 of the drawings shows in side view a modified construction with a stem for carrying the blade holder but omitting the blade and holder therefor.
This invention thus provides a razor which is of simple and robust construction and which enables a better degree of control to be exerted than the known art devices having an elongate handle.
Referring now to Figures 5 and 6 of the drawings, these show an alternative and preferred constructional embodiment. As shown in the drawings, an annular hollow member 10 is provided having internal longitudinally extending ribs 11 to prevent rotation during use. The diameter of the member 10 is such that the index finger of a user may be inserted therein readily. An extension 12 extends from the outer surface of the member 10 and initially develops from the surface as a tangential extension from the hollow member and terminates in a cross piece 13. The extension 12 is arcuately curved and has a reinforcing web 12a. The cross piece 13 has outwardly directed flanges 14 in the nature of ribs which engage corresponding opposed channels 15 on the back surface of a blade holder 16. The arrangement is such that the blade holder 16 may be slid longitudinally onto the cross piece 13 and engaging detents may be provided.
The blade holder 16 may be of a customary or proprietary construction and in an advantageous embodiment incorporates two blades 17 and 18. The blade holder is intended to be a disposable item being discarded at the end of its useful life. The construction will preferably be a one piece moulding of synthetic plastics material with the internal diameter of the hollow member being of the order of 2.5 centimetres and the length being of the order of 2 centimetres.
