It also has the advantage of being able to take into account a possible rotation of a scene represented by a series of images. It also has the advantage of being able to simultaneously carry out a detection of 5 the contours of the image, hich is useful in applica- tions ere an extraction of contours must be performed simultaneously ih a characterization of the textures.
.DTD:
According to the invention, a process for the char- acterization of textures in a digitized image, this image being analyzed element by element and each image element being represented by the digital value of its luminance, is characterized in that it consists, for each image element, in:
.DTD:
- determining the modulus and orientation of the gradient of the luminance of the element concerned; - determining, from among the image elements neigh- bouring the element concerned, that for which the absolute value of the difference between the orientation of the luminance gradient of the element concerned, modulo 900, and the orientation of the luminance gradient of the neighbouring element, modulo 90 , is a maximum, this maximum value being caLLed the order of the Luminance gradient of the image element concerned; - determining a first characterization parameter of the texture of the image element concerned by computing the quadratic mean of the modulus of the Luminance gradient, in a window centered on the element concerned; - determining a second characterization parameter of the texture of the image element concerned, by computing the quadratic mean of the order, in a window centered on the element concerned.
.DTD:
The invention will be better understood and other details will appear with the help of the following description given merely by way of example, ith reference to the accompanying figures in hich:
