Description
PINE NEEDLE RECEPTACLE
Variable sized receptacle for falling pine needles from Christmas trees.
Decorated indoor Christmas trees are traditional at Christmas time.
However pine needles begin to fall off soon after erection. This is an inconvience to the householder causing extra work to remove the fallen pine needles. Xany people therefore prefer to buy artifical trees.
The PINE NEEDLE RECEPTACLE was invented to catch the falling needles and so reduce the amount of clearing up needed. It also has the advantage of reducing the extra fall of needles on to the floor when the tree is moved at the end of the Christmas period. Apart from being functional THE PINE
NEEDLE RECEPTACLE is also a Christmas tree decoration.
According to the present invention is provided a variable sized decorative receptacle which can be attached to the base of a Christmas tree to catch falling pine needles.
The receptacle can be made from various shapes of various materiais of various colours and textures. It can have various colourful designs or be of a uniform colour.
The receptacle is easily assembled from a single sheet or several sheets of materiai The receptacle acts as a shelf below the lower branches of the tree. The shape of the shelf may vary, for example a circular flat shelf with an edge, or a cone shape.
Por example a cone shaped receptacle is described to illustrate the
RECEPTACLE. The cone couid be made from a singie sheet of material which is overiapped at the edges. The cone fits around the base of tbe
Christmas tree and is attached to either the branches or the trunk of the tree.
The radius of the centre of the cone can be varied in diameter to accommodate the trunk of the tree or the container in which the tree is being held.
The edge of the cone can be trimmed easily to vary the size of the cone according to the length of the longest branches of the tree or on the individual's personal preference.
The circumference of the cone can be varied to the desired shape by varying the amount of overiap in the original sheet.
An example is described of a cone shaped receptacle with reference to the accommpaning drawing in which
Figure 1. Shows a flat circular sheet of material with a centre hole and a slit extending from the centre to the edge of the circle
Figure 2. Shows the site of attachment of the receptacle to the Christmas tree.
Referring to the drawing the cone receptacle is made from a sheet of materiai which in this example is a fiat sheet of cardboard in a circular shape (see Fig.i).
The centre of the sheet is cut out with a radius of R' as in Fig. 1. The radius can be varied according to the diameter of the trunk or the receptacle in which the tree is being held by cutting along lines parallel with the central hole (2 in Fig 1).
The sheet has a siit in it (3 in Fig. 1) extending from the centre to the edge. By varying the overlap of the edges (i.e. overlapping edge 3 with iines 4 & 5 as in Fig. 1 ) the diameter of the cone can be varied until the desired shape is obtained. The edges are then fixed which can be done by various methods for example plugs in overlapping holes, or by cutting out a pattern in one edge of the material so that it can lock into slits at variable sites in the other side or by the use of double sided tape.
The radius of the circular sheet (R2 in Fig.1) can also be cut as for R' so that the cone extends beyond the longest branches of the tree and minimizes pine needle spillage onto the floor or according to the length desired by the person erecting the cone for decorative reasons.
The receptacle can be attached to the tree so that it lies below the branches (1 in Fig.2). The attachment of the cone to the tree can be done by various methods the one illustrated is the use of ribbons (2 in Fig.2) attached to the cone which can be tied either to the branches of the tree or the 'trunk.
