Abstract

A hood which completely encloses the occupant of a wheelchair, providing protection against the weather. It is supported by a dismountable framework made from metal tubes. It consists of a single piece of material in the form of a roof, from which flaps are unfolded and fastened in place on all four sides. All side flaps have a transparent insert to act as a window.

Description

THE FRAME FOR THE HOOD. IS STAINLESS STEEL OR METAL. THE TOP OF THE FRAME TWO BARS WITH SHOULDERS, TO MEET AND JOIN AT ONE END AS A LONG OBLONG FRAME LENGTH 28 INCH LONG.
WIDTH 18 INCH, SHOULDERS 8 INCH DOWN. TWO BARS 21 INCH LONG, DIAMETER 3/4 INCH TO SLIDE IN TO SHOULDERS BRACKETS TO FIX ON CHAIR, TUBE OR METAL 5 INCH LONG, ONE HOLE DRILL THROUGH ONE SIDE OF BRACKET TWO HALF ROUND BRACET HOLDERS WITH TWO BULTS. BOTTOM BULT TO GO THROUGH BRACET TO STOP THE BAR GOING HROUGH. TOP BRACKET TO GO ON TO CHAIR.
SLIDE TOP OF FRAME IN TO THE TWO LONG BARS SLIDE ALL THE FRAME INTO THE BRACKET. THE COVER.
THE MATERIAL WATER PROOF VINAL AND SEE THROUGH PLASTIC.
MIDDLE PIECE TO LOOK LIKE A PILLOW CASE. FOUR SIDE PIECES TO STITCH ON WITH FOUR WINDOWS HIGHT DEPENDING ON THE HIGHT OF THE PERSON.
THE COVER FRAME THEN CLOSED UP AND SNAPS TO GETHER WITH PRESS SNAPS. THE SIZE OF THE COVER DEPENDS ON THE PERSONS HIGHT BUT THE TOP OF THE FRAME IS ONE SIZE A TWO INCH LARGER THAN THE FRAME IN LENGTH. AND ONE INCH IN WIDTH.
SLIDE COVER OVER FRAME LIKE A PILLOW AND SNAP THE SNAPS TOGETHER. THE HOOD IS COMPLETE.

Claims (7)

1. A hood for a wheelchair comprising a single piece of heavy duty material which tinfolds to form a roof and fotir side flaps, and which is stipported by a dismotintable framework made from metal tubes.
2. A hood for a wheelchair as claimed in Claim I, wherein the frame consists of a curved metal tube acting as horizontal roof stipport, which slides into two vertical metal tubes, which in ttirn slide into two short vertical metal ttibes affixed to the frame of the wheelchair.
3. A hood for a wheelchair as claimed in Claim I or Claim 2, wherein the material forming the hood slides onto the horizontal portion of the metal frame in the manner of a pillowcase sliding onto a pillow.
4. A hood for a wheelchair as claimed in Claim 3, wherein the material of the hood, having been slid onto the horizontal part of the metal frame, tinfolds into ftill-length flaps which are positioned vertically around all four sides of the wheelchair.
5. A hood for a wheelchair as claimed in Claim 4, wherein transparent inserts are incltided in all fotir flaps to act as windows.
6. A hood for a wheelchair as claimed in Claim 4, wherein the fotir flaps are held in place, when tmfolded, by press studs permanently attached to the material of the hood.
7. A hood for a wheelchair stibstantially as described herein with reference to Figtires 1-6 of the accompanying drawings.
