Abstract

226,113. Barna, E. E. June 25, 1924. Mattresses.-A mattress which is adjustable in length and width has its longitudinal rails formed in two parts connected by an adjustable hinge, and its transverse rails formed in two parts telescoping into a middle connecting portion. As shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the wire fabric 1 passes through registering slots 4 in the inner and outer sliding tubes 2, 3 constituting the end rails, and is secured by a wire 5 which passes through the meshes of the fabric, which is secured at its corners to end blocks 6 fixed to the side rails 8, 9. These side rails hinge about an adjustable pivot 10 positioned in holes 11 in a channelled extension 12 on one member 9. To tension the mattress after adjusting its length, the members 8, 9 of the side rail are forced into alignment and secured by a bolt 13.
