Abstract

There is provided a wheel clamp comprising a frame (1) having a first member (2) which in use of the clamp on a tyred vehicle wheel extends the wheel, second and third members (3, 4) attached to the first member (2) to form therewith members which, in use, accommodate respective portions of the periphery of the tyre, and a fourth member (6) movably mounted with respect to the first member (2) for movement between an inoperative position in which the fourth member lies generally adjacent a portion of the first member (2), and an operative position in which the fourth member (6) extends at an angle to the first member (2) and in use engages a portion of the periphery of the tyre different from said respective portions, the clamp further comprising locking means (11) releasably attachable to the frame (1) in a manner to prevent movement of the fourth member (6) from the operative position to the inoperative position, the frame (1) being dimensioned such that at least one end of the frame can engage the body of the vehicle on rotation of the wheel having the clamp fitted thereto. <IMAGE>

Description

WHEELCLAMP I wish to apply for a patent for my invention of a wheelclamp, the new and unique features are as follows.
The main wheelclamp frame is fitted to the wheel with the arm "B" in the position shown in diagram one, it is slid in from the front side of the wheel to encapsulate the wheel, the lefthand side of the frame is then lifted about 6" and then the arm "B" is pivoted to the locked position as shown in diagram two. The locking cover is then fitted and the adjustment bolt tightened, this pulls the mainwheel clamp frame tight to the wheel and prevents arm "B" from being moved to the unlocked position. The adjustment mechanism is then locked to prevent the whselclamp removal.

Claims (8)

1. A wheel clamp comprising a frame having a first member which in use of the clamp on a tyred vehicle wheel extends across the wheel, second and third members attached to the first member to form therewith members which, in use, accommodate respective portions of the periphery of the tyre, and a fourth member movably mounted with respect to the first member for movement between an inoperative position in which the fourth member lies generally adjacent a portion of the first member, and an operative position in which the fourth member extends at an angle to the first member and in use engages a portion of the periphery of the tyre different from said respective portions, the clamp further comprising locking means releasably attachable to the frame in a manner to prevent movement of the fourth member from the operative position to the inoperative position, the frame being dimensioned such that at least one end of the frame can engage the body of the vehicle on rotation of the wheel having the clamp fitted thereto.
2. A wheel clamp according to claim 1, wherein the locking means is in the form of a cover releasably attachable to the frame.
3. A wheel clamp according to claim 2, wherein the cover is attachable to the fourth member of the frame.
4. A wheel clamp according to any of claims 1 to 3, wherein the cover is releasably attachable to the frame by bolt means which is provided with a lock.
5. A wheel clamp according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the fourth member of the frame is attached to the first member at a point off centre of the first member, the longer portion of the first member and the second or third member attached thereto serving to engage the ground or body of the vehicle on rotation of the clamped wheel in one direction or another.
6. A wheel clamp substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to Figures 1 to 3 of the accompanying drawings.
7. A method of assembling a wheel clamp on a tyred vehicle wheel, the clamp having a collapsible frame, the method comprising the steps of:1. placing the frame in a collapsed condition on the ground adjacent the wheel to which the clamp is to be fitted; 2. pushing the collapsed frame towards the wheel; 3. raising the clamp from the ground and moving a fourth member of the frame, relative to the first member, to an operative position in which it extends at an angle to the first member and in which operative position it engages a point on the periphery of the tyre, and so as to dispose second and third members of the frame around respective points of the tyre different from the point engaged by the fourth member; and 4. locking the fourth frame member in the operative position.
8. A method of attaching a wheel clamp substantially as herein particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
