Abstract

A bearing has a passive pulser ring, e.g. for measurement of vehicle wheel speed, incorporated in a seal 21 positioned radially between outer and inner race elements 1,4. The seal comprises an angle-section metal frame ring 22 and a flat pulser ring 27 of magnetic material positioned adjacent radial flange 24 of the frame ring, the two being held together by injected rubber or polymer material 23 which provides a sliding seal lip 28. Cylindrical portion 25 of the frame ring 22 is frictionally attached to one of the race elements. The pulser ring 27 has cut-outs 17 or similar peripherally spaced discontinuities to give a varying reluctance to an axially directed magnetic flux as the ring rotates, and the flange 24 may have similar, aligned cut-outs.
