Abstract

Brickwork 10 and blockwork 12 with interlocking profiles, e.g. tongues and grooves, are set out in the traditional method of laying with staggered joints. The nature of the interlocking profiles and use of a brush applied bonding agent in regions 13 provides a secure protective barrier against water ingress, together with ease and speed of construction. A rebated underside of the masonry accommodates and protects the wall ties 11 from exposure. <IMAGE>

Description

(NELA) MASONRY INTERLOCKING 3RICKWORK AND BLOCKWORK DRY WALL SYSTEM This invention relates to an interlocking brickwork and blockwork wall system.
The uses of mortar bonding and flat profiled masonry is something that has been in practice in the construction industry for well over 200 years.
Mortar can be supplied to building sites in large readymix quantities but mere often than not contractors elect to execute the mixing process during the course of on site construction. Brickwork and blockwork are currently bonded with flat mortar bed joints with flat wall tie applications.
The use of mortar bonding with flat profiled masonry has, due to the nature of these vunerable straight jointing methods inherited both short and long term constraints. In the shert term it's time consuming application requiring skilled operatives to effectively set out and adhere only in acceptable weather conditions, whilst in the long term it's eventual breakdown in the mortar bonding with flat profiled masonry eventually inherits water penetration as well as the considerable expensive maintenance attention commonly associated with blocked mortar cavities, repointing of perished mortar joints and the replacement ef corroded wall ties.
According te the proposed invention there is provided a masonry interlocking profiled brickwork and blockwerk dry wall system. The masonry internal and external walls are shaped and profiled in such a way that prevents the ingress of water penetration. In addition the use of a profiled clip on wall tie system and a brush applied coating ef a bituminuous rubber latex emulsion prevides for a powerful bonding agent which is equal to that of the traditional method used. Furthermere the use of a brush applied bonding agent substantially increases the speed of operation as well as providing the long term maintenance free solution commonly associated with (A) 3locked mortar cavities. (B) The repointing of perished mortar joints. (C) The expensive replacement of corroded wall ties.
The use of bituminuous rubber latex emulsion is commonly used in its present application for it's qualities associated with damp proofing, especially below ground situations.
s specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by the way of examples with the reference to the accompanying drawings in which: FIGURE 1 shows in perspective the shaped profiled interl.cking -bricks and blocks with profiled protected wall ties, securing both between cavity.
FIGURE 2 illustrates the typical section through the cavity walling.
FIGURE 3 illustrates the view from the underside of the cavity wall shewing the slotted rebate to accommodate wall ties.
FIGURE 4 illustrates typically the example of accommodating special bricks within the profiled system.
(NEL B) Ref erring to the drawings brickwork and blockwork are set out by an operative in accordance with the cavity width required. Interlocking brickwork 10 and interlocking blockwork 12 are layed in position with staggered joints as per the traditional method of laying. The interlocking profiles can then quickly receive a single brush applied coating of coloured bituminuous rubber latex emulsion in those areas numbered 13. Once applied laying proceeds immediatley and when drying takes place provides a powerful bonding application together with a secure barrier against the ingress of water.
The clip on wall ties 11 are secured in position as work proceeds and are accommodated within a protective rebate as described in figure 3.
No further attention to the walling is required by the operative and thereafter the structure becomes maintenance free.

  1. (PANEL C)
ClAIMS 1. A masonry interlocking brickwork and blockwork dry wall system, the masonry internal and external walls are shaped and profiled with appropriate water checks ultimately preventing ingress of water penetration, in addition the use of profiled clip ever wall ties and a brush applied coating of a bituminuous rubber latex emulsion provides a powerful bonding which is equal to that of zny other traditional form of bonding agent. Furthermore the nature of a brush applied appication will substantially increase speed of operatien as well as providing a long term maintenance free solution commonly associated with mortar blocked cavities, repointing of perished mortar joints and the expensive replacement of corroded wall ties.
The use of bituminuous rubber latex emulsion is commonly used in it's present application for it's qualities associated with damp proofing, especially below ground situations.
