Abstract

A wet razor comprising at least one blade (1) within a blade holder (9). Provided within the blade holder (9) are spring pivots (2) which locate in notches (3) in the blade (1) which when the blade (1) is drawn across the skin during shaving allows a sideways displacement of the blade or blades from the direction of shaving. <IMAGE>

Description

"A Wet Razor." I, NiCHOLAS JULIAN JAN FRANCIS NacPHAIL, a British Subject of La Girouette, Grandes Rocques, Guernsey ot the Channel islands, do hereby aeclare the invention for which we pray that a patent may re granted to me and the method by which it is to be performed to De particularly descried In and by the following statement: A WET RAZOR THIS INVENTION relates to a wet razor.
h typical wet razor comprises at least one blade positioned in a blade holder commonly removable from a handle.
In a recent development of the art the blades in a non electric wet razor are mounted to enable them to move under spring pressure towards and away from the face to better follow its contour, -However, in this recent development of the prior art the movable blades add to costs while retaining the straight chopping motion of a standard razor.
In a further recent development an electric motor is utilised to oscillate the blade holder from side to side to produce a reciprocating action of the blade.
However, this further recent development is costly, heavy and requires mains electricity, batteries and or recharging.
The present invention seeks to provide an improved razor in which the drawbacKs and disadvantages of the prior art are removed or reaucea.
According to the present invention there is provided a razor having at least one blade in a blade holder with a means of utilising tne varying drag occuring during shaving acting upon at least one blade to cause at least sideways displacement of the blade or blades from the direction of the shaving motion.
Conveniently the sideways displacement may be caused by at least one spring pivot locating in each blade.
Advantageously at least one spring pivot may be formed in the blade holder.
Alternatively the means of utilising the varying drag occuring during shaving may consist of at least one diagonal slot in the blade holder in which is located a pin integral with at least one blade.
Another alternative means of utilising the varying drag occuring during shaving may consist of at least one diagonal slot in at least one blade in which is located a pin integral with the blade holder.
Although for the sake of clarity means using a single blade has been described it should be understood that more than one blade may be utilised and in the case of the preferred twin bladed form the blades may be conveniently arranged so that the spring pivots or pins and slots cause the sidesways displacement of each blade to be'in a similar direction or preferably in opposing direction.
Preferably the blade holder is generally formed from thermoplastic and the blades from stainless steel.
In order that the invention may be better understood and its features appreciated the invention will now be described by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: FIGURE 1 is a diagramatic representation of a spring pivot means example that forms a preferred embodiment of the present invention; FIGURE 2 is a diagramatic representation of a diagonal slot in holder and pin in blade means example of the present invention; FIGURE 3 is a diagramatic representation of Figure 1 with the blades retracted; FIGURE 4 is a diagramatic representation of a diagonal slot in blade and pin in holder means example of the present invention with the blade retracted.
FIGURE 5 is a diagramatic representation of an assembled blade holder.
Referring firstly to Figure 1 there is shown a preferred form of the present invention wherein is provided a blade 1. within a blade holder 9. The blade holder in Figures 1, 2, 3 and 4 is shown in partially dismantled form to aid understanding. -Within the blade holder 9. are provided spring pivots 2. which may be conveniently mouided within the blade holder 9. or alternatively inserted separately. The spring pivots 2. locate in notches 3.
in the blade 1. When the blade 1. is drawn across the skin during shaving the blade I. is able to follow the irregularities of surtace by being sprung against the skin by the spring pivots 2. When extra drag is encountered if, for example hair is being cut, the blade moves away from the skin by compressing the spring pivots 2. which cause a simultaneous sideways slicing motion of the blade 1. to the hair. To aid comparison Figure 1 shows the blade 1. in an extended position while Figure 3 shows the preferred form of Figure 1 with the blade 1. retracted under drag.
Figure 2 shows an alternative form of the present invention incorporating diagonal slots 5. in the holder 9. which cause sideways deflection of the pins 6. in the blade 1. when the above described drag increase causes the blade 1. to compress the springs 4. producing effectively the same sideways slicing motion of the blade to the hair as the means shown in Figures 1 and 3.
Figure 4 shows another alternative form where the blade 1.
incorporates diagonal slots 7 in the blade 1. and pins 8. In the holder 9. to produce the same sideways slicing motion of the blade to the hair as described above.
Figure 5 shows a diagramatic representation of a preferred twin bladed form of the present invention with arrows indicating the preferred opposing sideways motion of the blades.
