Abstract

A jigsaw puzzle picture having a backing sheet 10 and a support sheet 11 overlying the backing sheet and supporting an assembled jigsaw puzzle 12. A rectangular mount 13 is placed over the assembled jigsaw 12 and is overlaid by a transparent sheet 14. The assembled sandwich of backing sheet 10, support sheet 11, assembled jigsaw puzzle 12, rectangular mount 13 and transparent sheet 14 is secured together by a rectangular frame 15 to form a picture. <IMAGE>

Description

JIGSAW PUZZLES This invention relates to jigsaw puzzles.

Users of jigsaw puzzles sometimes wish to retain and display an assembled jigsaw puzzle which they, or others, find particularly attractive but with the possibility of breaking down the jigsaw puzzle for use at a later date and also of substituting another assembled jigsaw puzzle for the former.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a simple and effective means of satisfying this requirement.

According to the present invention we provide a kit of parts for forming a picture from a jigsaw puzzle, the kit of parts comprising a backing sheet, whereof one side is constituted by a non-slip surface, integral with or separate from the backing sheet, on which a jigsaw puzzle can be erected, a transparent cover sheet adapted to overlie the backing sheet with the assembled jigsaw puzzle sandwiched therebetween, and means for releasably securing the sandwich of backing sheet, cover sheet and intermediate assembled jigsaw puzzle together.

Preferably, the kit of parts comprises a peripheral mount adapted to overlie the assembled jigsaw puzzle between the latter and the transparent cover sheet.

Preferably, the kit of parts comprises a means for hanging the picture on a wall or other vertical surface andlor a means for supporting the picture in an upright attitude on a horizontal surface, which means may be integral with or securable to the backing sheet.

Preferably, the kit of parts comprises a support sheet having nonslip surfaces on one of which the jigsaw puzzle can be assembled and the other of which is adapted to contact and cover the backing sheet.

Preferably, the securing means is an open frame having a channel section adapted to peripherally engage and embrace the sandwich of backing sheet, cover sheet and assembled jigsaw puzzle, and peripheral mount if provided.

Preferably, the frame is of rectangular configuration but may be circular, triangular or otherwise depending on the finished configuration of the jigsaw puzzle.

The securing means may alternatively be constituted by a plurality of clips or other fastening devices for peripherally releasably holding the aforesaid sandwich in assembled condition.

Also according to the present invention we provide a picture constituted by a jigsaw puzzle and a kit of parts as hereinbefore defined.

An embodiment of the present invention will now be described, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is a partially exploded sectional view of a jigsaw puzzle picture according to the present invention; and Fig. 2 is a fragmentary sectional view of the jigsaw puzzle picture.

The jigsaw puzzle picture comprises a rigid backing sheet 10 of stiff cardboard, plastics or plywood or any other convenient material, a support sheet 11 of non-slip material overlying the backing sheet 10 and supporting an assembled jigsaw puzzle 12.

The support sheet 11 may be a cover member as disclosed in our copending Patent Application No. 8901562 (Publication No. 2216022) and the jigsaw puzzle 12 may be assembled on such sheet 11 forming part of the jigsaw puzzle holder which is the subject of our aforesaid Patent Application and the support sheet 11 and the assembled jigsaw puzzle 12 can then be moved as a unit from the holder onto the backing sheet 10.

A rectangular mount 13 is then laid over the assembled jigsaw puzzle 12 although this may be omitted if desired.

Finally a transparent sheet 14 of plastics material is laid on top of the rectangular mount 13.

The assembled sandwich of backing sheet 10, non-slip support sheet 11, assembled jigsaw puzzle 12, rectangular mount 13 and transparent plastics sheet 14 is then secured together to form a picture by a rectangular frame 15 having an inwardly-open channel 16 for peripherally enclosing and gripping the aforesaid assembled sandwich 10 to 14.

The rectangular frame 15 is slit as indicated at 17 at three corners for hinging purposes and is split or separable as indicated at 18 at the fourth corner to allow it to be circumscribed around the assembled sandwich 10 to 14.

The rectangular frame 15 is a plastics extrusion and has a rearwardly-extending rim 19.

To complete the jigsaw puzzle picture a hanging cord or other suspension means is secured to the backing sheet 10 or rectangular frame to permit the picture to be hung, or a stand is fitted to the rear of the picture to permit it to be displayed on a table or similar.

An alternative frame comprises four separate components of U or other convenient cross-section, each frame component being engaged on a respective side of the assembled sandwich 10 to 14, the frame components then presenting a complete rectangular frame configuration.

Claims

1. A kit of parts for forming a picture from a jigsaw puzzle, the kit of parts comprising a backing sheet, whereof one side is constituted by a non-slip surface, integral with or separate from the backing sheet, on which a jigsaw puzzle can be erected, a transparent cover sheet adapted to overlie the backing sheet with the assembled jigsaw puzzle sandwiched therebetween, and means for releasably securing the sandwich of backing sheet, cover sheet and intermediate assembled jigsaw puzzle together.

2. A kit of parts according to claim 1 comprising a peripheral mount adapted to overlie the assembled jigsaw puzzle between the latter and the transparent cover sheet.

3. A kit of parts according any preceding claim comprising a means for hanging the picture on a wall or other vertical surface and/or a means for supporting the picture in an upright attitude on a horizontal surface, which means may be integral with or securable to the backing sheet.

4. A kit of parts according to any preceding claim comprising a support sheet having non-slip surfaces on one of which the jigsaw puzzle can be assembled and the other of which is adapted to contact and cover the backing sheet.

5. A kit of parts according to any preceding claim wherein the securing means is an open frame having a channel section adapted to peripherally engage and embrace the sandwich of backing sheet, cover sheet and assembled jigsaw puzzle, and peripheral mount if provided.

6. A kit of parts according to claim 5 wherein the frame is of rectangular configuration.

7. A kit of parts according to claims 1 to 4 wherein the securing means may alternatively be constituted by a plurality of clips or other fastening devices for peripherally releasably holding the aforesaid sandwich in assembled condition.

8. A kit of parts for forming a picture from a jigsaw puzzle substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.

9. A picture constituted by a jigsaw puzzle and a kit of parts as defined in any one of claims 1 to 8.
