Abstract
A motorcycle stand support comprises a plastics or metal plate having an area on its upper side enclosed by a plastics or metal rim 1, into which the lowered side stand or centre stand 7 of a motorcycle can be placed preventing the stand sinking into a soft surface due to improved weight distribution supplied by the support. The device could also be secured to the stand by means of a chain 8 or wire through a hole incorporated for this purpose. Lugs 5 are also provided to secure the plate to the motorcycle if required when not in use. <IMAGE>
Description
MOTORCYCLE STAND SUPPORT
This invention relates to a support plate onto which a motorcycle side or centre stand may be stood.
A common problem with motorcycles is that when leaning on their side stand there is a possibility of them toppling over due to the stand sinking into soft ground or melting tarmac. The centre stand may also experience the same problem if it is necessary to use it on uneven ground.
According to the present invention there is provided a plate of plastic or metal formed in a regular shape, the upper side of which has an area enclosed by a rim of plastic or metal with radial strengthening webs. Into this the side stand or one leg of the centre stand would locate. A chain or wire security device could also be incorporated so as to lock the support to the stand and prevent theft.
Various shapes such as circular or rectangular or even novelty design s could e incorporated for the plate as could the area into which the stand locates, be shaped for a specific motorcycle or be universal to all makes.
A specific description with the drawings No. I - 4 will follow in that:
Figure 1 shows the plate in disc form viewed from above;
Figure 2 shows figure 1 viewed from the side;
Figure 3 illustrates a cross-section of figure 1 on A-A; and
Figure 4 illustrates a cross section of figure 2 on A-A with a side stand in place.
Referring to the drawing, Fig. 1 shows the support in circular design as viewed from above, a possible shape for the enclosed section, No. 1 is illustrated and it is into this that either stand will locate. Strengthening webs, No. 2 can also be seen.
Detail No. 3 shows the hole through which a security device such as a chain or wire would pass and be locked around the stand to prevent theft.
Detail No. 4 shows drainage holes in the enclosed area to prevent it filling with water.
Detail No. 5 shows two holes, at 90 degrees to each other through protruding lugs moulded into the perimeter, the purpose of these being a means of fixing the support to the motorcycle by means of the crash helmet security lock provided on most modern motorcycles. The device could also be stored under the seat of the motorcycle or in a pocket.
Fig. 2 shows the support in Fig. 1 viewed from the side, the strengthening webs, No. 2 are also illustrated.
Fig. 3 shows the support in cross section, the enclosure into which the stand would stand in is shown by No. 6, it would also be thickest at this point so as to take the weight of the motorcycle.
Fig. 4 shows the support in use in cross section with a side stand in place (No. 7), and secured by a pad lock & chain No. 8.
Claims (8)
1 A motorcycle stand support consisting of a plate made from plastic or metal of a regular shape such as circular or rectangular, even possibly novelty or fashion design. The upper face of the plate having an enclosed area formed by a raised rim of plastic or metal. The purpose of the plate being to insert under the lowered side or centre stand of a motorcycle so as to distribute the weight over a larger area preventing the stand sinking into the supporting surface causing the motorcycle to fall over. The raised rim on the upper face of the plate being intended to prevent the stand from sliding off of the plate.
2 A motorcycle stand support as claimed in claim 1 having a means by which a security chain or wire can be attached to the motorcycle stand and padlocked to prevent theft.
3 A motorcycle stand support as claimed in claims 1 and 2 wherein two holes are provided at 90 degrees -to each other, through lugs moulded onto the perimeter of the support for the purpose of fixing the support to the motorcycle when not in use by means of the crash helmet lock fitted to most modern motorcycles.
4 A motorcycle stand support as described in claims 1, 2, 3 and having if required drainage holes in the area into which the stand locates when in use preventing water filling the enclosure.
5 A motorcycle stand support as claimed in claims 1 to 4 and having strengthening webs moulded to the enclosure rim and plate to add strength to both.
6 A motorcycle stand support as claimed in previous claims onto which promotional material, vehicle registration numbers or owner particulars can be moulded, engraved or printed.
7 A motorcycle stand support as claimed in claims 1 - 6 onto which the lower face is moulded or machined with grooves or spikes for extra grip on the supporting surface.
8 A motorcycle stand support substantially as described herein with reference to figures 1 - 4 of the accompanying drawing.
