Description
Golf game /Practice tool This invention refers to a golf game or practice tool engulfing the chipping expertise of the game.
Most golf games engulf the driving action of the sport of golf.
According t. the present invention a vertical back-drop as provider, which supports a n'jrnbr of baskets/nets/ pouches (hereafter to be referred to as packets for the purposes of this description), into which a player may attemt to chip golf or other speciallydesigned balls, using a golf chipping iron or other specially designed club.
A specific example of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 shows the targart back-drop with pockets attached.
Figure 2 shows some fabrication details of the one kind of pocket.
Figure 3 shows how a detachable pocket may be anchored behind the back-drop.
Figure 4 shows how a detachable pocket may be anchored to the front of the back-drop.
Figure 5 shows how a permantly-attached pocket may be anchored to a soft back-drop using plastic or rubber bonding shroud.
Figure 6 shows one example of a ball-rest which may be fabricated to assist in the chipping action.
Referring to the accompaning drawings, the target back-drop 1,is either rigid or of sone material or fabric streched across a frame,or hanging from a runner like a curtain, mounted on a stand or easel 2.
Pockets 3, are mounted on the back-drop 1, at locations which might engender competitiveness suitable score labels 4, accompany each pocket location to add an edge to coinpetitiveness, each label to carry different score values to reflect certain aspects of difficulty (eg. Pockets 3, may be of rigid construction (eg. all rigid plastic) or comprise a rigid rim 5, and tongue 7 with soft material o netting The rims 5, may be eliptical, circular or semi-circular in sap.' when viewed in a plan dra-aing).
In on method of construction, the rims 5, and tongues 7, must be rigidly joined at an angle 8, of 90 or less.
The pockets 3, may be detached or permantly fixed to the back-drop 1.
If detatchable, the pockets 3, could be hung on the back-drop by passing the tongues 7, through slits 10, in the back-drop 1, and anchoring the tongues 7, in sleeves 9, attached to the back-drop 1, as shown in Figure 3.
Another form of detachable pocket 3, is illustrated in
Figure 4, where the sleeves 9, are attached to the front of the back-drop 1, and the tongues 7, are slipped directly into the sleeves 9.
Where the pockets 3, are permantly attached to the back-drop 1, the tongues 7, are encased in mouldings or weldings 10, such encasements being then welded or moulded onto the back-drop 1.
When playing the game the object ball may rest on the ground or floor or carpet.
If the game is being played outdoors the object balls may be sited on golf tees.
If the game is being played indoors or outdoors, special ball-rests 12, may be used, the construction of which may be varied (an example is shown in Figure 6 !.
Such ball-rests 12, will best be construction to provide stability whilst being as unobstrusive to a striking club as is possible. They 12, should therefore be as small as is practicable, and also provide a ball-position as close to the floor as possible.
The essence of the game is the usa of the chipping auctions in golf, and as such the player will us a chipping cluD or suitably-designed alternative (neither is illustrated).
Scoring systems may be designed to engender competitiveness by ref lecting degrees of difficulty in pocketing, in the different score-values given to different pocket locations.
Claims (10)
1. A vertical back-drop is provided which supports a number of pockets into which a player may attemt to chip golf or siinilar and suitable balls, using a chipping iron or other specially-designed club.
2. A vertical back-drop as claimed in Claim 1 which may be rigid by virtue of the use of plywood, for example, and propped up by hinged framework or some form of trestlework.
3. A vertical back-drop as claimed in Claim 1., which may be of ssEt material or fabric (e.g. plasticised nettling, plastic sleeting or canvas or other suitable fabric) which is stretched across a framework or which hangs from a rigid rail like a curtain.
4. A vertical back-drop p as claimed in Clai;n 1. and
Claim 3, and mantained in a vertical position by the use of a structional frame or trestlework such as an easel.
5. A vertical back-drop as claimed in any preceeding claims where pockets are either permantly-attached or are detachable.
6. A vertical back-drop as claimed in any preceeding claims, wherein a pocket comprises a rigid rim and a receptical of soft fabric, netting or rigid trelliswork.
7. A vertical back-drop as claimed in Claim 6, wherein a plan viw of the rim suggests an eliptical, circular or semi-circular shape.
8. A vertical back-drop as claimed in any or all of the preceeding claims, accompaned by a golf or other specially-designed balls, which will be projected to its pockets.
Claims
9. A vertical back-drop as claimed in Claim 8, where the balls are placed on the ground or the floor of the room, or on other specifically fabricated balL-rests, prior to being projected to its pockets.
