Abstract

A template for use in marking the position at which an electrical socket box or the like is to be located on a wall comprises a member formed with apertures which correspond in size to single and double boxes and which are used to mark on the wall the position of the box to be fitted. In use, the member may be placed on the floor to locate one or other of the apertures at a prescribed height above the floor. The member is provided with spirit levels. <IMAGE>

Description

Simple Socket Installation Device This invention relates to an electrical socket box installation device.
Electrical Socket boxes are commonly used in the building industry and are fitted into plasterboard, cavity and other types of walls, behind light switches, power points television aerial outlets and the like.
These must be fitted to a legally recommended height, cut to a pre-determined size to fit single (one gang) or double (two gang) switches and sockets and have vertical and horizontal planes.
According to the present invention there is provided a means of identifying the prescribed height from floor to socket centre (300mm), of marking, cutting or otherwise removing the exact dimension of a single, double, plain or flanged box and of finding the exact vertical and horizontai planes by means of a spirit level bulb.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be describe by way example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:- Figure 1 stows a front elevation of the installation device.
Referring to the drawing the device comprises a single bodied frame with integral spirit levelling bulbs.
In order to use the device it is placed on the floor on either the single or double socket end levelled by means of the spirit level bulb and the outline of the socket either marked, sawn, cut or otherwise removed from the blank wall.
In the case of switches at shoulder height the correct height may be measured by rule tape or other flexible, fixed or rigid material length.
In the case of other power or signal outlets the device may be positioned ad lib, levelled and the socket cut in the required position.

Claims (2)

1) A rigid framed device capable of being levelled, placed at a pre
determined height against a wall and used to mark and remove the exact dimension of a single or double electrical socket box.
2) A rigid framed device substantially as described herein with reference tu figure 1 of the accompanying drawing.
