A water cleaning facility for use in an area of water of less than three meters depth such as in lake, pond, river or reservoir. The device comprises a tube 1 held vertically under water by means of a weight 6 and flotation collar 2. Compressed air supplied to an inlet 16 forms bubbles 22 which rise up the tube 1. The chemicals to be dispersed e.g. aluminium chloride or polymer coagulant and an algicide such as copper sulphate or copper chloride, may be contained within bags (68) located in a framework (67) attached to the top of the tube 1 by cables (65) and provided with flotation means (64. fig.6). <IMAGE>

Description

SHALLOW AREA WATER-LIFTER DEVICE The present invention relates to a water cleaning device for shallow water under three meters of depth. Water in a lake.
pond, reservoir or river can be treated effectively by this water cleaning facility.
The water quality of a dam, lake, pond or river usually deteriorates as the temperature increases. Because of the growth of algae as well as the increase of water temperature, oxygen in the water is largely consumed. This endangers aquatic creatures therein. Fish cadavers etc. pollutes the water. Conventional approaches such as the activated sludge method or the intermittent aeration water-lifter system are poor in their performance and expensive to maintain which obviously can not resolve the specific problem mentioned above.
The circulation of water between upper and lower parts can eliminate the multiplication of alga. In shallows (e.g. within three meters). the circulation system, however, can only bring the algae up and down and does not kill them. Other than that, particles and the scarcity of dissolved oxygen can not be resolved simply by cirulating the water.
The water cleaning device of this invention can be installed at a specific position within shallow water. With this device by using algicide and sedimentation chemicals these are dispersed effectively, thus, a better water quality can be expected.
Aluminum sulfate, aluminum chloride and polymer coagulants may cromprise the sedimentation chemicals and copper sulfate or copper chloride may comprise the algicide.
A deep hole must be dug when the water is not deep enough.
Sedimentation chemicals and algicide can be automatically blended with water in this invention. The amount of algicide suggested is from 0.2 ppm to 1.0 ppm, which is proved to have algae-killing ability and will not endanger the living creatures in water.
By using the device of this invention, sedimentation chemicals and algicide can be automatically blended with water and the content of dissolved oxygen will be increased. The water quality will eventually be improved.
The invention will now be described further, by way of examples, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is a sectional view of a water-lifter of the present invention; Fig. 2 is profile of the device in a functional position; Fig. 3 is a plan showing a plurality of water- lifters in position in a lake; Fig. 4 is another plan of a specific part of a lake; Fig. 5 is the front elevation of the water-lifter and chemical containers; Fig. 6 is the front elevation of algicide and coagulant containers; and Fig. 7 is the enlarged view of an aeration room.
Referring to Fig. 1, a water-lifter 1 is equipped with flotation ring 2 on its upper end to keep the whole system standing vertically. A ring-type intermittent aeration section 3 is installed at the base of the water-lifter 1. A plurality of connecting shafts 4 and a separation board 5 are jointed to a heavy weight 6 at the lower end of the water-lifter 1 so as to seat it firmly, An internal tube 7 and an external tube 8 are arranged between the aeration section 3 and the water-lifter 1. A separation tube 9 is arranged between the tubes 7 and 8. The upper and lower ends of the separation tube 9 have stopping plates 10 and 11. A plurality of holes 12 and 13 are provided at selected distance on the lower part of the internal tube 7 and the upper part of the separation tube 9. A closure plate 14 is provided on the top of the internal tube 7.Circularly arranged square holes are provided around the lower end of water-lifter 1. Air is provided by a hose from an air compressor and an air inlet 16 is provided in the external tube 8.
Compressed air is injected to the inlet 16 in the direction indicated by the arrow 17. The internal and external tubes 7 and 8 thus become an air chamber 18. The water-level of the chamber will keep falling as demonstrated by the arrow 19.
When the water-level of the air chamber falls down to level 20, air in the air chamber 18 will flow through the square holes 15 to the water-lifter 1 in the direction indicated by arrow 21 and turned to form an air bubble 22 floating up on the water-lifter 1. In the meantime, the water will be sucked into the air chamber 18 from the lower end of the external tube 8 in the direction indicated by the arrow 23. The water goes up as the air bubbles 22 float and ejects from the outlet 24. The water will be dispersed to the air and circulate in the direction indicated by the arrow 2#a.
The separation board 5 prevents organic sediment 26 from being sucked into the water-lifter.
After the treatment process explained above, the dissolved oxygen will be increased, the organic sediment will be oxidized and the water quality will be ameliorated. The air-compressor applied in this system is an efficient and energy-saving one.
Example 1 Referring to Fig. 2, 3 and 4, a 2-meter hole is dug at the bottom of a pond of five meters in depth in the shape shown by the chain dotted line 37 to the shape shown by line 37a, the deepest point is seven meters in depth where a water-lifter 1 is installed. The installation of a water-lifter depends on the depth and the form of the water repertory. For example, when the water is around 30 to 50 tons, a water-lifter is installed as shown in Fig. 2. The water will flow in the direction shown by the curves 38 and 38a, to be dispersed and circulated.
In Fig. 3, a more complicated site 40, a 4-water-lifter system 1, la, lb, lc is installed in a lake. In Fig. 4, a twowater-lifter system 1 and la is installed, having a channel 39 between broken line 43 and outlet 42 to one side of a lake 41.
In both these cases, the water of the lake can be purified.
Example 2 Referring to Fig. 5, 6 and 7, a water-lifter 1 has an airchamber facility 62 located at the bottom thereof and copper sulfate and coagulant containers 63, 63a on the top. A flotation tank 64 keeps containers 63 and 63a at the selected depth. A cable 65 connects containers 63 and 63a to the water-lifter 1.
Another cable 66 connects the flotation tank 64 to the containers 63 and 63a and keeps them in a specific position.
Copper sulfate and coagulant containers 63 and 63a are inside brackets 67 and 67a and bounded by a bag 68. Copper sulfate 69 and coagulant 69a are contained in the bag 68.
The quality of copper sulfate 69 and coagulant 69a depends on the quality and quantity of water and the number of waterlifters installed. The mesh of the bag 68 can control the right amount of chemicals to be dissolved in the water. It is suggested that only a fraction of the chemicals is put into the water once a time, to prevent the dissolution taking place too fast which would overdose. The preferable dissolving speed is the quantity of water x 0.2 ppm. Besides this, an injection nozzle is strongly recommended if the algicide and coagulant are in liquid form, which can facilitate the control of the proportion of chemicals in the water.
The algicide and coagulant containers of this invention are shown in Fig. 6. As described above, the bag 68 is installed between the brackets 67 and 67a. Copper sulfate 69 and coagulant 69a are contained in the bag 68.
When the water in the water-lifter 1 rises in the direction shown by the arrow 31 in Fig. 5 it flows around through the bag 68 and dissolves the copper sulfate or coagulant. In this kind of container it is difficult to control the dissolution. Overdissolution can be controlled by the size of the mesh of the bag. In Example 1 which has containers for algicide and coagulant surrounding the upper end of the water-lifter, it makes the dispersion of the concentration of algicide and coagulant property under control. In cases where the algicide and coagulant are in liquid form, a nozzle for algicide is installed in the middle of the water-lifter 1 and is connected to a pipe 32 as shown in Fig. 2 to control the necessary dose of the algicide.
In this embodiment coagulant can be applied first and algicide subsequently. A container 72 for the chemicals is provided.
As shown in Fig. 7, a water-lifter 1 has an air chamber 62. Air pipes 46 convey compressed air to an external tube 48 in the direction of the arrow 47. The water-level of the external tube begins to decrease. In the meantime, through holes 50 of a separation tube 49 are occupied by air. The air flows to a center tube 52 in the direction of the arrow 51 and the water-level will keep decreasing going down to chain-dotted line level 53. The air flows through an internal tube 54 through a connecting hole 55 to an internal tube 27 as indicated by arrows 56 and 28, then flows into a connecting hole 29 and to the water-lifter 1 as shown by arrow 30. Compressed air 61 carries the water in the direction of the arrow 45 to go up and eject out of the water lifter. Part of the water will flow through the copper sulfate on coagulant container and will be dispersed into the water as indicated by arrow 33. In Fig. 5, air is provided through the air tube 32. A counter weight 35 is provided at the bottom of the water-lifter 1 and a flotation tank 36 is provided at the top.
To summarize, in order to ameliorate the water quality in shallows, this invention utilizes the water-lifter to circulate water, to disperse the algicide and coagulant at the stage of aeration thus to increase the amount of dissolved oxygen, to sedimentate particles and to kill the algae inside.
