Abstract
224,287. Mueller, J. G. Aug. 7, 1923. Tie-bars; rail joints.-Rail braces engage under the rail head directly or by means of packings and have wedging engagement with inner braces and/or filling blocks, the braces and blocks being secured together and adjusted by tie-rods or bolts 5. The outer braces 9, Fig. 2, bear at 10 against the rail web 2, and have a tongue-and-groove engagement with the inner braces 15. The braces 15 bear against the web 2 and base 1 of the rail and have a tongue-and-groove engagement with a. filler-block 21 which bears against the underface of the rail base and may be in one piece or, as shown, in two pieces. The meeting-faces 29 of the inner and outer braces may be inclined in the same direction as the meeting-faces of the inner braces and the blocks, and in this case the braces 9 may be extended below the braces 16 and be connected by an adjusting-bolt. The outer braces 9 may engage the head and base of the rail through packing-pieces 43, 44, Fig. 10, the inner braces being dispensed with, while pressure blocks 9<g> are used with the bolts 5. The braces 9 may depend below the filling-blocks and. engage each other to form a fulcrum. The filling- blocks may engage the outer braces 9, which may then pass through the inner braces 15, Fig. 5, and in this case the tie-rods bear against the braces 15. The braces are adapted to support the rail when it is weak, or elsewhere.
