Abstract

The collector takes the form of a lidded shovel comprising a removeable handle (10), a shovel blade (11) and an integrating hinged cover (12). The handle has a fork (13) one limb (14) of which fits in a pocket (15) in the outside of the cover and the other limb (16) engages the back wall of the shovel blade to position the cover blade with the cover held open. By swinging the handle forward while resting the shovel blade on the ground, the collector is closed and may be removed from the handle for disposal. <IMAGE>

Description

Product Description: Disposable Collector for Animal Fae'ces The Invention comprises a disposable collector ' for animal fae'ces & is concerned more particularly although not exclusively with a disposable collector for dog excrement which may be used by dog owners to clean up after their pets.
The invention prow yes a lidded shovel- comprising; A lidded shovel with a handle & a shovel blade having a hinged cover closable on the shovel blade to form therewith a closed container, for matter collected on the shovel. The handle may being separable from the shovel & being movable angularly relative to the shovel blade to close the cover thereon.
Conveniently. the handle may be re-movably attached to the cover. This enables the handle to be re-used when the container is disposed of along with the collected excrement.
In order to facilitate the use of the shovel, the handle may have a projection to engage & push the shovel blade while holding the cover open.
For ease of packaging the disposable portion, the shovel blade & cover may present a rearwardly tapering passage when the cover is fully open. This enables a supply of disposable shovel blades & covers to be nested one within the other.
The disposable shovel blades & covers are preferrably manufactured from bio-degradable material.
A specific embodiment of the present invention will now be described byway of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Fig 1. A side view of the lidded shovel & handle in the closed position according to the invention, Fig 2. A side view of the lidded shovel & handle in the open position.
Fig 3. A pictorial view of the.invention.
Fig 4. A cross - section on line X-X in Fig 1.
Fig 5 & ss Show de-te,i-ls of the cons.tructior? With reference to the accompanying drawings, the handle is generally indicated at 18, the shovel blade at 11 & the hinged cover at -12.
The handle has a forked bracket 13 manufactured from metal or plastic shown in detail in Fig 5. One limb 14 of the fork is a push fit in a pocket 15 formed in the topside of the cover with the pocket mouth adjacent to the hinge 17, the latter being integrally moulded with the cover 12 & the blade 11. The other limb 16 of the handle fork engages against the back wall of the shovel blade 11 to position the shovel blade with the cover held open & enable the shovel blade to be pushed by the user in a conventional shovelling movement. By swinging the handle forward with the shovel blade 11 resting on the ground. the cover 12 may be closed to form with the shovel blade 11 a closed container with the excrement collected on the shovel.
The cover & the blade - clip shut- in the closed position of the cover. The clip detail is illustrated in Fig 6.
The handle proper may be manufactured from wood or plastics.
The blade 11 & cover 12 are moulded from bio-degradable material.
