Abstract

223,815. Pollard (Sundries), Ltd., E., and Pollard, H. E. March 26, 1924. Lined boxes.-Linings for jewel cases, &c., particularly for the lids thereof and having concave or convex exterior surfaces, are formed from fabric blanks which have a, concave shape imparted to them on the exterior surface G and tuurdowned edges J by the operation of dies, a paper or like backing H being usually provided; the body so formed, Fig. 5, gives a lining with a concave exterior surface but if a lining with a convex exterior surface is required the body is sprung outwards to reverse its curvature. The dies shown in Figs. 2 and 4 form linings for a square case or lid and comprise a lower fixed concave die A and an upper movable convex die B guided by lugs B<1> engaging slots C' in plates C secured to the die-holder D fixed to a cover-plate E. The vertical edge A<1> of the die A determines the edge formed on the lining. A spring F is arranged between the die B on the, cover-plate E so that, when the die B is arrested on the shaping of the blank, the plates C continue their motion and form the downturned edges of the lining; cutting edges C<2> on the plates C sever the surplus material from the finished lining.
