Description

Title Hair Salon Aid Field of the invention This invention relates to a hair salon aid.
Background to the invention A discomfort for the users of hairdressing salons is that, when the hair is cut, cut hairs are liable to penetrate under the neck of the usual user protective gown and thence progress on to or within the user's own clothing.
Known techniques employed in an endeavour to prevent this problem, such as a packing of cotton wool strip, are generally not successful.
It is an object of this invention to provide a device for preventing the discomfort arising from cut hairs in a hairdressing salon.
The invention According to the invention, there is provided a hair salon aid which comprises a collar having a flexibility enabling it to fit closely around at least part of the neck of the user. said collar havina a fold line extending across its length to divide it into an inner part for contacting the user's neck, this inner part having an associated retaining means for causing the inner part to remain in close contact with the neck, and an outer part foldable downwardly outside the inner part, this outer part being provided on one side with attachment means for enabling a protective gown to be secured thereto along the portion of the collar contacting the neck, the attachment means comprising either a hooked pile fabric surface or a self adhesive surface.
The invention thus provides a collar whereby cut hairs are unable to penetrate inside said collar owing to its close contact with the skin around the user's neck, and are unable to penetrate inside the gown from the outside of the collar owing to the securing of said gown to the collar.
For positively preventing cut hair from penetrating inside the collar, the inside face of the inner part may be of a nature to adhere lightly and non-damagingly to the skin, for example by carrying an adhesive coating.
On the outer part, the hooked pile fabric or self adhesive surface is preferably provided on the inside face, which becomes the outside face when the outer part is folded down outside the inner part.
The inner part may be such as to surround the neck, in use. Alternatively, the collar may be attached to only the back of the neck by means of the adhesive face.
It has been found that few hairs normally reach the front of the neck, and that this arrangement thus still provides an effective barrier to the penetration of cut hair, whilst avoiding any discomfort associated with the adhesion of the inner face to the front of the neck.
This type of collar preferably includes a flap for engaging the part of the gown secured to the outer part of the collar, the flap including second attachment means for enabling one face of the flap to be attached to the said part of the gown, and an opposite face of the flap to be attached to another part of the gown.
The flap may comprise an initially separate component which is subsequently attached to the collar by suitable means. Preferably, however, the flap is formed as an integral part of the collar, which includes a second fold line for enabling the flap to be folded towards the outer part.
The flap may with advantage be situated at one end of the collar, the second fold line being substantially perpendicular to the first fold line.
The second attachment means preferably comprises a self adhesive surface on one face of the flap, which may include a third fold line for dividing the flap into an inner part, bearing the inner face and an outer part bearing the outer face when the flap is folded.
With this arrangement, one end of the gown neck may be held between the outer part and the inner face of the flap, whilst the other end of the gown neck is held on the outer face of the flap.
Brief description of the drawings The invention will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a collar according to the invention; and Figure 2 shows a modified version of the collar.
Detailed description The collar shown in Figure 1 may be made of an inexpensive cloth it is intended to be disposed of after single usage.
The collar has a fold line extending approximately centrally along its length, dividing the collar into an inner part 10 for making close contact with the user's neck, and possibly having a light and non-damaging adhesive coating 12 for positively sealing against the skin, and an outer part 14 for folding down outside the inner part, the outer part having laminated thereto on one face a layer of hooked pile fabric 16, e.g. Velcroabric, enabling a conventional user-protective gown to be secured thereto all round the collar. Alternatively, a selfadhesive layer may be provided.
As indicated in dashed line, instead of providing the inner part with an adhesive coating, for example as a weakly sticky laminate, said inner part may be provided with hooked pile fabric tabs 20 enabling the inner part to be firmly secured in tight contact around the neck.
The collar shown in Figure 2 comprises a strip 22 at one end of which there is provided a flap 23 of enlarged width compared to the strip 22. A first fold line 24 extends along the length of the strip 22 to meet a second perpendicular fold line 25 which is colinear with a cut 26. The fold line 25 and cut 26 divide the strip 22 from the flap 23 which includes a third fold line 27 which, with the collar unfolded, is colinear with the fold line 24.
The face of the collar shown in the Figure carries a selfadhesive surface, the collar being supplied with a backing strip 28 covering the surface. When the collar is to be used, the backing 28 is peeled off, and the strip 22 is folded along the line 24 into an outer part 29 and an inner part 32. The inner part 32 is placed against the back of the user's neck, and one end of the neck of a gown is attached to the outer part 29. The flap 23 is then folded along the lines 25 and 27 so that that end of the gown neck is sandwiched between the first part 29 and a second face 33 of the flap 23. The gown is then wrapped around the user's neck, and the other end of the gown neck is then attached to an outer face 34 of the flap 23 to secure the gown in position.
After use, the collar may be discarded.
