Abstract
223,598. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Perry, C. L.). Oct. 19, 1023, [Convention date]. Contacts; high-potential switches.-Describes an improved contact for a high-potential switch and an advantageous arrangement of subsidiary contacts. The main movable contact 10, which co-operates with a fixed contact 18, is made by consolidating the ends of a plurality of copper or other flexible strands 11 into a rigid mass, for example, by drop forging. For this purpose a casing 12 is preferably first slipped over the end of the strands. The switch shown in Fig. 3 comprises a member 17 rotatable by electromagnetic or other means about an axis 21 and carrying pivoted to it the main contact 10, an intermediate contact 22 adapted to contact with a contact 24 and an arcing contact 23 adapted to contact with a contact 25. The three contacts 10, 22, 23 break contact successively and the relative time at which the contact 22 opens is adjustable by a nut 27 which limits its movement. The contact 10 is supported on the member 17 by a U-member 31, Fig. 5, and a hook 32, and a spring 33 forms a fulcrum about which the contact can tilt in any direction so as to be self-aligning.
