Abstract

A wiper blade lamina 18d has at least a portion which is curved in shape. The lamina may be curved at one end only, centrally, or along its length in a sinuous manner, or at each end, the curvature at one end being opposite to that at the other end. A notch 20 may be formed at one end of the lamina for fixing purposes. <IMAGE>

Description

BLADE ASSEMBLY FOR WINDSCREEN WIPER WITH A CONTOUR OF VARIABLE PROFILE 1
is The present invention relates to a blade assembly for a windscreen-wiper consisting ofi a framework formed from at least one arc-shaped element and bearing a wiper element made of elastomeric material and provided with a longitudinal reinforcement of flexible metal lamina.
In known blade assemblies for winds c reen-wipers.. the lamina reinforcementy which can consist of one or more laminae,, has a constant contour,, which means that the wiper element assumes over Its entire length a concave or convex shape,, having at all points along it the sa curvature.
]Known blade assemblies have the disadvantage of not guaranteeing good adhesion of the wiper element over its entire length on the rear window or windscreen on which they are mounted,, particularly when the latter have curvatures which are very pronounced or variable at certain points along them.
For the purpose of eliminating the disadvantage.referred to. the subject of the present invention consists of a blade assembly for a windscreenwiper of the type indicated above. characterized In that the abovementioned reinforcement of flexible metal lamina has a contour of variable profile.
The blade assembly according to the Invention has the advantage of being capable of being adapted according to a particular required shape and thus of adapting,, for example in the case of use on a windscreen, to the substantial difference in curvature which the latter has In the area of the parts In front of the driver and the passenger.
Further advantages and characteristics of the present Invention will become clear from the detailed description which follows and which in made with reference to the attached drawings which are provided by way of non-limitative example and In which:
Figure 1 in a perspective view of a blLde assembly for a windscreen-wiper according to the Invention; Figure 2 is a perspective view of a detail of the is blade assembly in Figure 1; Figures 3 to 7 are perspective views which Illustrate alternative embodiments of the element illustrated in Figure 2; Figure 8 is a schematic perspective view which illustrates a machine for the production of an element of the blade assembly according to the invention, and Figure 9 in a schematic view of a detail of Figure 8.
A blade assembly for a windscreen-wiper (Fgure 1) consists of a framework 2 formed from a main arc-shaped element 4 which supports at its ends a f Irst pair of secondary arc-shaped elements 6 which with their Internal ends In turn support a second pair of secondary arcshaped elements 8. The free ends of the arc-shaped elements 6 r 8 are provided with C-shaped hooks 10 which are arranged transversely in relation to the longitudinal direction of the arc-shaped elements 6. 8.
The framework 2 supports a wiper element 12. known per se. of elongate shape and made of elastomeric material. which has a transverse crosssection in the form of a triple T. having two continuous longitudinal grooves 141 16 on each of its sides. The hooks 10 of the fram work 2 engage In the pair of grooves 14 furthest from the framework 2. securing the wiper element 12 to the latter. In the other pair of grooves 16. a pair of flexible metal laminae 18a for reinforcement of the wiper element In located,, which have a notch 20 to favour their fixing. The laminae 18a (Figure 2) have a contour of variable profile, one end curved and the remaining part rectilinear,. and thus make the wiper element 12 assume a similar shape. which is suited to a corresponding profile of a windscreen or rear window.
Figures 3 to 7 illustrate alternative embodiments of flexible metal laminae of variable profile which can be mounted on blade assemblies of the type described above In order to be suited to different requirements of use.
Figure 3 illustrates a pair of laminae 18b which have a curve in an essentially central position.
1 is Figure 4 illustrates a pair of laminae 18c which have a plurality of curves.
Figure 5 illustrates a pair of laminae 18d which have a pair of curves in an essentially symmetrical position in relation to their central part.
Figure 6 illustrates a pair of laminae 18e which have the ends curved with opposite convexity.
Figure 7 illustrates a pair of laminae 18f which have one end curved and the remaining part of opposite convexity.
Figures 8 and 9 illustrate a machine 22 for the. production of flexible metal laminae 18 which have a contour of variable profile. This machine 22 has a casing 24 which is provided with an opening 26 for the introduction of the lamina 18 to be worked. Beyond the opening 26, two counter-rotating rollers 28 for drawing in the lamina 18 are arranged and downstream of these a roller 30 which is movable transversely to the direction of advance of the lamina 18, in a direction which is orthogonal to its general plane. The rollers 28, 30 are operated by an electric motor 32.
In the functioning of the machine 22, the lamina 18 is introduced into the opening 26, possibly already curved beforehand according to a constant profile. It is then drawn in by the pair of rollers 28 and subjected to curving at predetermined points an a result of the translation of the movable roller 30 (the direction of movement of which is indicated by the arrow 34 in Figure 9), which is controlled by means of conventional adjustable sensors and timers.
Obviously the effects of the present invention extend to models which achieve similar utility using the same innovative idea.
