Abstract
A teeing device for a rugby ball or the like comprises frusto conical circular piece of soft pliable synthetic rubber shaped in its upper surface to receive the ball. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATIONS
This invention is known as a KICKING TEE for use in the game of Rugby
Union Football and/or Rugby League. ( Distinct from other forms of football
or Gridiron Football as played in the U.S.A. and Canada.)
Until the present neither of the above Rugby codes, Rugby Union or
Rugby League has permitted the use of any form of manufactured apparatus to be used to assist players taking kicks for points. This invention will replace the manual process of physically having to build a kicking tee by digging and moulding the turf with the heel or toe of the kickers boot, or by hand, or having to wait for sand to be brought onto the field and then construct a kicking tee.
- The Kicking Tee is made of a soft pliable form of synthetic rubber.
- The Kicking Tee is circular in shape as is illustrated in Figure # 1.
- It measures 32mm in height and is 92mm at the top and tapers out
to 1 33mm at the bottom as is illustrated in Figure # 2. The flat
surface on the top of the Tee measures 10 mm.
- The opening or hole into which the ball is placed prior to being kicked
measures 72.50 mm wide an is illustrated in Figure # 3.
Claims (4)
1. The first claim is that the use of this invention, a Kicking Tee
represents the very first occasion that a manufactured piece
of apparatus has been approved for use in place kicking by any
Rugby piaying nation in the world. It is, therfore, a new overall
invention for the sport of Rugby Union.
2. The Kicking Tee referred to in Claim 1 will replace the manual
process of physically having to construct a kicking tee by moulding
the turf, (or sand that is brought onto the field) with the toe or
heel of the boot or with the hands as is current practice.
3. It is further claimed that this invention will provide a consistent
height (32mm, see Fig. 2) from which kickers can attempt
their kicks for points, a factor that manually constructed kicking
tees of turf or sand could never gaurantee.
4. Claim 4 relates to the stability of the ball when placed upon the
the Tee in readiness for the attempted kick. The opening into which
the ball sits (72.50 mm, Fig. 3) provides an extremely stable
position from which to kick. The common sight of a ball toppling
over from manually constructed kicking tees and wasting precious
playing time is virtually eliminated by using this invention.
