Abstract

Angular bending; mandrels; formers.-An apparatus for bending light electric conduit and other tubes comprises a former adapted to be temporarily secured to a support and a core in the form of a wire coil. The former A is of channel shape and may be of metal or other material and is provided with flat portions A<1>, A<2> so that it may be secured by screws or bolts to supports. The core consists of a coiled spring B having an extension B<1> to which is attached a wire or tape B<2> on which slides a gauge C to locate the position of the spring with respect to the part of the tube to be bent and so avoid the use of a long spring. This is effected by marking on the tube the ends of the part to be bent, laying the spring along side the tube and then moving the gauge into contact with the end of the tube. The wire B<2> may be integral with the extension B<1> and the spring may be tapered at one or both ends to facilitate entry into the tube. The tube is clamped in the former by a ring E. The apparatus is portable and can be carried about in a workman's tool bag or kit, a series of formers of different lengths and diameters being required.
