Description

Casement fastener The Dresent invention relates to a casement fastener for the use in casement windows. consisting of a screwable pillow block and a hand-grip provided with a blocking member. the cylindrical pivot of said handle being tiltable, placed in the pillow block and axially fixed.
The known casement fasteners of this kind bear the disadvantage that they either cease to work precisely in case of long-term and frequent use, or that their production is expensive.
The object of the present invention is to provide a casement fastener which exhibits high reliability of operation and long service life at reasonable production costs.
According to the present invention this object is achieved in that bushes of plastic material, which are provided at both ends with one external collar each, are inserted into the recess of the pillar block, which recess is intended to receive the pivot, and that the pivot, subsequent to inserting it into said bushings, is deformed at its free projecting end in such a way that a bulb is formed which closes backlash-free to the collar of a bush.
Inaccuracies in the axial direction occurring due to the deformation of the projecting end of the pivot are compensated by the elasticity of the plastic bushes.
The plastic bush preferably consists of polyacetal (DelrinR). This plastic material exhibits very good sliding proPerties, and is elastic in such a way that jamming of the pivot does not occur, even if the bulb formed by upsetting and flanging deforms the collars of the plastic bushes in the axial direction. The pillow block advantageously consists of zinc die-casting.
It may be such precise that subsequent treatment of the recesses for the accomodation of the plastic bushings is not necessary. The handle, provided with casement turn blocking member and journal, advantageously consists of a zinc die-casting, too.
In a preferred embodiment of the present invention the pivot is provided at the side of the handle with a radially projecting ds3 which is tiltable by Soc and guided in a corresponding recess of the sleeve at the handle side. This covered stop effects that the case mrnt fastener can always be brought into the correct opening position and locking position.
The casement fastener according to the present invention will be further illustrated in the following description with reference to the drawings of the embodiment examoles.
Figure 1 shows a side view of the casement fastener and a sectional view of the pillow block, Figure 2 shows a toD view, and Figure 3 shows a view from below on the casement fas tener according to Figure 1, Figure 4 shows an enlarged oresentation of the handle bearing within the pillow block Figure 5 shows a view according to the intersection V-V of Figure 4.
Figures 1 to 3 show a casement fastener for the use in casement windows comprising a screwable pillow block 1 and a hand-grip 2 which is provided with a casement fastener blocking member 3. Handle 2 exhibits a cylindrically formed pivot 4, which is tiltable and axially fixed in pillow block 1. A substantially cylindrical recess 9 is positioned in pillow block 1, said recess is intended to receive journal 4. In this substantially cylindrical recess 9 of pillow block 1 there are inserted bushings 5 and 7 which are provided at both sides with externally positioned collars 6 and 8 each; the bushes are made of plastic material, particularly of polyacetal or similar materials. Once the pivot 4 is inserted in said liners 5 and 7. its free projecting end is deformed in such a way that a bulb 10 is formed which fits closely and free from play at collar 8 of bush 7.By means of this partially uDset and partially flanged bulb 10 the pivot 4 is fixed axially. Pillow block 1 consists of zinc die-casting, and is cast in such a precise way that the plastic bushes 5 and 7 can be inserted into the corresponding recess of pillow block 1 without the need for subsequent treatment. The pillow block is provided at its both narrow edges with mounting flanges 14 and 15 interspersed with bolt holes 16. The flanges 14 and 15 are each provided with a surrounding, frame-like edge 17 which projects at the side of the handle, in order to cover the fastening screws to be inserted into bolt holes 16; small covering plates 18 can be engaged into said edges. A frame-like border 19 is formed to the bearing surface of pillow block 1, which border projects by 0.3 to 0.8 mm and guarantees that the pillow block sits closely and free of gaDs to the casement.
Near the journal 4 within the handle 2 a recess 20 is provided for which serves to insert a safety lock.
Said recess 20 is situated coaxially to a recess 21 which is positioned at the upper side of pillow block 1 and which serves to receive a locking gudgeon of the safety lock.
As is shown in Figure 3. the blocking member of the casement fastener is provided at its lower side with a surrounding border 22, and within said border 22 a small sliding plate 23 is positioned by glueing or welding; said sliding plate 23 consits of a wear-resistant material exhibiting good sliding properties and serves to exactly adjust the plane of the blocking member 3 to the height of a slide-plane-member.
In order to be able to perform an exact adjustment, sliding plates of different thicknesses are used one of which is fastened to the lower side of blocking memoer 3, after the casement window with casement fastener has been mounted. Thus the thickness of the sliding plate 23 may be adapted to the individual conditions.
As is shown in Figure 1, the pivot 4 is provided at the side of the handle with a radially projecting dog 11 which is slewable by 900 and guided in a corresounding recess of the bush 5 positioned at the side of the hand-grip.
A clearer and enlarged view of the bearing of pivot 4 as well as the covered stop 11 is shown in Figures 4 and 5. The recess 12 in the plastic bush 5 extends over approximately 1800. while the radially projecting dog 11 extends over a range of approximately 900 so that handle 2 is slewable by 900 until its side surfaces strike against the stop faces 25 of recess 12.
As is shown in Figure 4, a funnel-shaped recess 26 is provided for in the projecting end of journal 4, which recess facilitates the formation of the bulb 10 by cold deformation, particularly by upsetting and flanging with the use of a correspondingly profiled tool.
It is understood that the specification and examples are illustrative but not limitative of the present invention and that other embodiments within the spirit and scope of the invention will suggest themselves to those skilled in the art.
