Abstract

222,968. Woodward, O. J. July 13, 1923. Holders for loose types; type-bars.-In an embossing machine, mor.& particularly for producing embossed cards, the embossing types are set in a frame slid on to the pressure member of the machine and are supported by bars which are adjustably and positively held in the frame and adapted to form spacing-pieces between adjacent rows of type according to the width of bar selected. The frame is substantially rectangular in form, three of the sides 1, 2, 3 being formed with grooves 5 having bevelled sides 6 while the remaining side 4 is formed as a flat plate having a thickness equal to the thickness of the other sides below the grooves 5. To support the type 17, bars 10 are provided having flanges 19 engaging the grooves 5 and being recessed at 20 to take the flanges of the type. The bars may be arranged parallel to the side 1 and clamped by a screw 22, or may be placed parallel to the side 2, the upper part of the side 3 being pivoted at 8 to allow of their insertion and a screw 21 being provided thereon to clamp them in position in the latter case. Some of the bars 10 may be formed to act as spacers only and have a line cutter 25, Fig. 4, or punches for punching holes formed thereon. The bevelled parts 6 of the grooves 5 serve to hold the frame on the pressure member 24 of the machine by engaging similarly bevelled projections on this member. Handles 23 may be provided on the frame.
