Abstract

222,878. Weitzel, R. Oct. 2, 1924. Compound slabs &c.-A moulded product suitable for the manufacture of buildings, &c., consists of layers of woven or unwoven fibres agglomerated by an adhesive, enclosing a layer, or layers of cork. The outer layers 1, 6 may consist of one part of asbestos and' 3 parts of cement. The inner laver consists of shaped pieces of natural or agglomerated cork with close joints or with spaces 3 left between them which spaces are filled with a reinforcement consisting of long fibres 4 and a binding medium, and, if desired', embedded wires &c. 5. When more than one layer of cork is used (as shown), the joints are staggered. Reinforcing fibres may also be applied directly to the article or may be placed in recesses in a thickened part of the cork, or arranged around a cork core. Where moulded sections are bolted to frames &c. long fibres having an undulated form are arranged between layers of the cork in a direction to resist drawing of the bolts.
