Abstract

A hallux valgus corrector is worn during the day when normal everyday stresses will act upon the 1st metatarsal joint. The heel cup is essential to avoid pronation of the hindfoot so that the forepart of the device can hold the hallux in its correct position even when the metatarso/phalangeal joint is dorsiflexed as when walking. <IMAGE>

Description

Hallux valgus Corrector/Prevententer.
The device consists of two parts : a) a heel cup or wedge which FITS into the heel of the shoe see Fig 1 The hindfoot must be held in a correct position before any correction of the forefoot can be attempted.
b) the device proper which is cut from aquatlast t6 this shape n Fig 2.
his cut out is moulded by immersion in near boiling water when it changes from an opaque material to a transparent one, at which point it becomes very pliable.
a fits under the planter metatarsal area b fits round the medial side of the first metatarsal c is shaped to a slight lip to acco-modate a possIbly prominent planter fascia d extends distally underneath the first metatarsal-phalangeal joint e fits round the outside of the walls The whole is held on the forefoot by an elastic metatarsal brace which also serves to bind the metatarsals together allowing correct functioning of the interossei. The device proper is worn on the foot inside the hosiery. A thin foam rubber lining is adhered to the device after mouldind. The footwear worn must be appropriate.

Claims (1)

1 A Hallux Valgus Corrector comprising a heel cup to stabalise the hind foot and a forepart to hold the hallux in its correct position assisted by a metatarsal brace of elastic material 2 he Hallux vagus Corrector is worn during the day to obtai n correction under normal weight bearing conditions.
