Abstract

A fan for an electric pump which can be used in particular in clothes washing machines and which is capable of producing cooling of said electric pump during operation, is provided with a plurality of straight blades 5 which extend radially from a circular wall 6 connected coaxially to a central hub 7 provided with a through-hole into which the driveshaft 9 of the corresponding electric pump is fitted, and a further wall 10 in the form of a circular ring which is coplanar and concentric with respect to said circular wall 6, said further wall 10 being connected to said blades 5 in such a way that the corresponding circular edges of the further wall are respectively spaced from the oppositely disposed edge of said circular wall and aligned with the outer ends of said blades. <IMAGE>

Description

FAN FOR AN ELECTRIC PUMP The invention relates to a fan for an electric pump which can be used in particular in clothes washing machines, the fan being shaped in such a way as to provide for effective cooling of the pump.
In order to permit removal of the heat produced in operation of electric pumps which are used for circulating fluids in machines and in particular for the discharge and/or recirculation of the washing solution with respect to the tub of clothes washing machines, use is normally made of fans of plastics material which are fixed on the motor shaft of the pump and are shaped in such a way as to produce a turbulent circulation of air around the body of the associated pump.
A known construction of such a fan comprises a plurality of straight blades of small thickness and of parallelepipedic shape, extending radially from a circular wall connected coaxially to a central hub having a through hole therein, through which the drive shaft of the electric pump is fitted.
The aim of the present invention is to provide a fan which has an improved capacity for ventilation of and the removal of heat from the associated electric pump.
In accordance with the invention there is provided a fan for an electric pump which is capable of producing cooling of said electric pump during operation, said fan being provided with a plurality of straight blades which extend radially from a circular wall connected coaxially to a central hub provided with a through hole into which the driveshaft of the corresponding electric pump is fitted, and a further wall in the form of a circular ring which is coplanar and concentric with respect to said circular wall, said further wall being connected to said blades in such a way that the corresponding circular edges of the further wall are respectively spaced from the oppositely disposed edge of said circular wall and aligned with the outer ends of said blades.
The features of the invention will be more clearly apparent from the following description given by way of nonlimitative example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a diagrammatic front view of a fan according to an embodiment of the invention, and Figure 2 is a view of the fan in figure 1 taken in section along line A-A therein.
Referring to the drawings, shown therein is a fan 3 which is made in one piece of plastics material and which can be connected to an electric pump (part of which is shown in figure 2) used for circulating fluids in machines and in particular for the discharge and/or recirculation of the washing solution with respect to the tub of clothes washing machines, the fan being capable of producing effective cooling of the body of the electric pump 4 in operation thereof.
The fan essentially comprises a plurality of straight blades 5 of small thickness and which are preferably of a parallelepipedic shape, the blades extending radially from a circular wall 6 connected coaxially to a central hub 7 which is provided with a through hole 8 into which is fitted the driveshaft 9 of the electric pump 4.
The fan 3 is provided with a further wall 10 in the form of a circular ring, disposed in coplanar and concentric relationship with the circular wall 6 and being connected to the blades 5, in such a way that the corresponding circular edges 11 and 12 of the further wall 10 are respectively spaced from the oppositely disposed edge 13 of the circular wall 6, thus defining a circular aperture 14, while also being aligned with the part-circular ends 15 of said blades.
It was possible to confirm by experiment that the presence of the further wall 10 in the form of a circular ring as well as the presence of the circular aperture 14 in the fan under consideration cause air to be directed through the circular aperture, at a level of intensity such as to permit better ventilation of the body of the electric pump 4 with consequent more effective removal of the heat produced during operation of the electric pump.

Claims (4)

1. A fan for an electric pump which is capable of producing cooling of said electric pump during operation, said fan being provided with a plurality of straight blades which extend radially from a circular wall connected coaxially to a central hub provided with a through hole into which the driveshaft of the corresponding electric pump is fitted, and a further wall in the form of a circular ring which is coplanar and concentric with respect to said circular wall, said further wall being connected to said blades in such a way that the corresponding circular edges of the further wall are respectively spaced from the oppositely disposed edge of said circular wall and aligned with the outer ends of said blades.
2. A fan according to claim 1 wherein the blades are of parallelepipedic shape.
3. A fan for an electric pump constructed and arranged to operate substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
4. A clothes washing machine having an electric pump fitted with a fan according to claim 1, 2 or 3.
