Abstract

222,188. Kousnetzoff, A. I. June 21, 1923. Spray burners; vaporizing-apparatus.-Heavy hydrocarbons for use for heating the grates of boilers or metallurgical furnaces or for supplying to internal-combustion engines are atomized by directing a mixture, of fuel and air or steam against a hollow body 5, heated internally and having a conical end 6, which penetrates into the central portion of, and deflects, the mixture into a number of passages 7, communicating through spiral passages 8 with a secondary mixing-chamber 9 supplied with air through one or more pipes 11. Heating fluid is supplied through pipes 13, 14. 12 to the hollow walls of the mixing-chamber 9 and a part 2 surrounding the body 5, and to the latter, which may be provided with orifices. The passages 7 may be of rectangular or other cross-section, of zig-zag or spiral formation, or formed by lugs arranged spirally in opposite directions on the member 2 and the body 5 respectively, as shown in Fig. 7. The cross-sectional area of the passages 7 may vary from one passage to another and increase in the direction of flow of the mixture.
