Abstract

A plastics sheet (10) is described having parallel ribs (12, 14) uniformly distributed over both surfaces. The sheet can be cut across and along the ribs into pieces which can be bent parallel to the ribs to form wall plugs.

Description

MULTI-SIZE FIXING PLUG.
This invention relates to a plug of a material (eg; plastic) being inserted in a suitable hole in a generally friable or fibrous material (eg; Brick) to allow a fixing to be made.
Plastic and fibre wall plugs are well known in their tubular and conical shapes and have been available in many different sizes.
The word 'Plug' is used as a size reference as being useable with screw sizes ranging between No. 4 and No. 14 of any length.
An example of a typical plug usage; To hold a shelf bracket to a brick/plaster wall. A suitable sized hole is drilled in the wall and a plug is inserted to be a snug fit.
A stable size screw or fixing is then passed through the item to be fixed and driven into the plug. The plug grips the screw and also expands-- into the hole thus creating a firm hold.
The object of this invention is to offer a multi-size fixing plug in one product.
The product is a flat sheet of a material with ribs or corregations along it's length. The ribs are at spacings across the width of the product. See fig 1.
To use the product, a piece cut from the sheet is rolled and inserted in a suitably drilled hole. See Fig.3 Then proceed as above example with fixing. See Fig. 4 Fig.l shows in perspective a sheet of the plug with ribbing.
Fig.2 shows an end view of the sheet with ribbing.
Fig.3 shows the'rolling' of the cut piece of sheet into a tubular shape.
Fig.4 shows the now tubular plug being inserted into a suitably drilled hole.
Fig.5 shows a screw(or other fixing) being driven into the fitted plug.

Claims (2)

  1. CLAIMS.
    The flat sheet fixing plug is multi-size and may be used to suit many different hole sizes and depths from the same sheet.
    Due to the fact that the rolled plug is not secured around it's
  2. 2. circumference, it may be rolled tighter than required to pass through a smaller orifice and be able to expand in a larger area beyond.
    If a plug has been cut, fitted and is found to be too small, more 3 section of plug may be cut from the sheet in narrow widths and inserted into the fitted plug. The ribbing keeping these'splinters' rigid and minimising it's movement when a fixing is applied.
