Abstract

A water-filled space heating radiator 1 is heated via an electric element 2 in the base thereof. The radiator 1 has control means 3 determining power input to the element 2 for economy of use. <IMAGE>

Description

CENTRAL HEATING CONVECTOR RADIATOR, WATER FILLED, HEATED BY AN ELECTRIC ELEMENT AND HAVING A POWER INPUT CYCLING MODE.
This invention relates to a water filled, Central Heating Con vector Radiator, heated by an electric Element and having a Power Input Cycling Mode.
Electrically heated radiators are a well known form of heating, but they can be expensive to use.
According to the present invention, a full length electric Element is inserted into the base of a conventional water filled Con vector Radiator, and a Control Box fitted, which when a certain heat level is reached, allows the Power Input Cycling Mode to commence.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings which in: FIG. Nol Shows in perspective a standard, Wet System, Con vector Radiator (1) with the base cut away.
FIG. No2 Shows the radiator (1) with the Element (2) in position.
FIG. No3 Shows the radiator (1) with both the Element (2) and Control Box (3) fitted.
FIG. No4 Shows a radiator complete and ready for fitting.
Refering to FIG. No4, the Electrically Heated Central Heating Con vector Radiator comprises of: (1) A standard Wet System Convector Radiator.
(2) A full length electric Element with Positive, Neutral and Earth Terminals.
(3) A Control Box with several heat level settings.
(4) A Safety Valve.
(5) A Vent Valve.
(6) A Radiator Plug.
The design of these radiators is such as to provide Heat-Levels at costs well below those of other Electric Radiators of equivilent size.
The radiator must be correctly sized to the area to be heated so that the Power Input Cycling Mode can opperate correctly.
The formula to establish radiator size is: For Living Areas Length in feet x Width in feet x Height in feet x 5 = BTU - 3412 = KW For Other Areas Length in feet x Width in feet x Height in feet x 4 = BTU . 3412 = KW A living area 15 Feet Long x 12 Feet Wide and having a Ceiling Height of 8 Feet = 7200 BTU -: 3412 = 2.1 KW output.
The correct size of radiator for this area is a 23" Single Convector of 56 Panels fitted with an electric Element rated at 2.3 KW input.
Once the area to be heated has reached an air temperature of 130C (550F), the radiator Input Load will start to cycle, drawing only half the Power Input requirement in a full hour while maintaining a panel temperature of 720C (1620F).
