Abstract

A variable lift wing contains a flexible membrane 4 on its upper surface that forms the camber of such a wing; by rotating a rotatable leading edge 8 the membrane camber may be increased or decreased, thus varying the lift of the variable lift wing. The rear edge of the membrane slidably engages in a sleeve 5 pivoted at the trailing edge. The leading edge member 8 may be rotatably adjusted by hydraulic means acting on an arm 3. <IMAGE>

Description

The Variable Lift wing.
The variable lift wing is constructed so that its relative chord can oe decreased or increase at will, by revolving the leading edge.
The trailing edge is controlled by a sleeve which allows it to be slid backwards and forwards, without disengaging from the sleeve, thus the lift of the wing is varied.
The leading edge is moved by means of an hydraulic arm. SCHEDULE OF COMPONENTS 1. Leading edge 2. Leading edge hinge for member 8 3. Hydraulically actuated arm 4. Claims (4)

'sLAIMS'
1 A variable lift wing comprising a revolving leading edge and a flexible membrane secured at the rear but able to unfold with the revolving leading edge, an arm being provided for adjustment of the leading edge by hydraulic means.
2 A variable lift wing as claimed in Claim 1 wherein a revolving leading edge is provided to unfold tfle membrane that is attached around it.
3 A variable lift wing as claimed in Claim 1 and 2 wherein a flexible membrane is provided which flexes, enabling the camber to be altered.
4 A variable lift wing as claimed in Claim 1 wherein an arm is provided to enable the revolving motion of the leading edge to be brought about by hydraulic means, thus unfolding the flexible membrane as claimed in Claim 1 and Claim 3.
