Abstract

A waste disposal chute system comprises a channel or duct member 6 which is secured to an outer wall of a building 9 and has an access cap 8. Several such members 6 may be mounted in series above each other to serve floors at different levels. Each floor may have full access to the chute system therein provided, by the fitting of a wall traversing duct member 5 which communicates with the said channel or duct member 6 in either a horizontal or sloping manner. The system further comprises a flange like cover 7 under which a bin 10 or bins are located, at the under side of which cover there is a slide valve, which when pushed into its engaged position allows each channel or duct member 6 to become a container within itself. <IMAGE>

Description

MULTICONNECTIBLE WASTE DISPOSAL CHUTE SYSTEM Tis invention relates to a multiconnectible waste disposal chute system.
Waste disposal chutes pre generally well known and are usually located within high rise homes or buildings of a similar nature where access to ground floor level is usually bj means of communal lift or by emergency fire staircase, niether of which are suitable for the removal of rubbish in the mounts generated by such buildings.
The waste disposal chute is therefore provided in such buildings so as to facilitate this problem, by simply placing the rubbish as it is generated into polythene bars and then sending the bags down the chute provided, the residents of such buildings are able to enjoy a uniquely hygienic and germ fres environment; this meth@d of waste disposal also has inherant labour savin@ qualities.
None high rise buildings such as standard households for example, as well as commercial kitchens and other buildings where peaple may live and work however, do no, enjoy this uniquely hygienic and germ free nethod of @aste disposal for example, domestic or kitchen waste is usually thrown into small bins of the type normally located in or around the kitchen or food prparation area of the home, when full, the contents of such small bins or containers are emptied into a larger container, usually a domestic dust bin located outside the home, The s@all bi@ located within the kitchen or food preparation a@@a has to be emptied continually in order to maintain a given level of h@giene, this method however, is usually labour intensive and messy as both inside and outside bins have to be cleaned regularly, moreover, in hot or humid we@ther both interior as well as exterior bins usually create unvanted odours which usually attract flies as well rS other unvanted insects and are generally source of d@@@@r to young c@ildren who, usually out of ouriosity tend to play with the kitchen bin the dangers being only too obviouse and real.
Stray oats and dogs which are commonly known to tear open bin bags in the street in order to gain access to thier contents are also a cuase for concern in terms of environmental hygiene as well as safety.
'[aste disposal chutes for use within stn.ndard houses are also, however, none hygienic, Itoreover when they are in use they provide a breeding ground for germs, insects and bacteria unless they are constantly cleaned and disinfected.
kitchen waste is ejected through the kitchen wall hatch or similar closure means usually in its raw state therein fowling the wall chute an also the outer chute as well as the bin or bin baa, which is usually located below the said chute, hence, smells and waste matter are then trapped within the chute system self thus pro-riding a breeding ground for g@r@s and harnfull bacteria, The wall traversing chutes are too small or narrow to recieve pre hygienically sealed waste parcells or packages such as the size of a large loaf of bread or larger. And therefore may only be cap@bl e of of recievi@g one or two snail itene of waste at a tie, possibly wrapped in film therefore rendering the chute arrnger'ent labour Intensive.
According to the present invention, there is provided a multiconnectible waste disposal chute system, comprising a channel member securable against an outer wall of a building to forn a duct or duct member securable against t wall of a building with the normally upper end of the said channel or duct member being in communication with a wall traversing inlet duct portion or channel member having en inlet closure means, in use, located @ccessable from the interior of a building and biassed into a normally closed position; a normally lower real on of the said channel or duct member being in the forrt of an outwardly extending portion or flange like m@mber of larger diamiter than the duct or channel member and of such dimension as to act as a cover for the mouth of p. domestic dustbin or similar receptloal which may be located there below, Preferably one or more additional channel or duct members o- portions will extend fron the main channel or duct member and means will be provided in the wall of the main channel or duct member to be diverted as desired, Preferably an access cap or inspection cover till be provided in the wall section of the main channel or duct member which nay be used to clear blockages or obstructions and na;- @e used to permit one or more additional channel or duct members to be joined to the first said channel or duct member to permit refuse from one or more upper dwellings to also pass into the bin, The channel or duct member and or the inlet duct member may be of two sections and adjustable in length so as to accommodate variouse situations and wall thicknesses.
The or each channel or duct menber will preferably be of lesser diamiter than the diameter of the open upper end of a domestic dustbin which usually have a standardised size.
Preforably the cover means formed as an cutwardly extending portion or flange like portion extends at right angles in a horizontal plane, in use, from the lower end of the main channel or duct member and preferably has a periphial downwardly extending rim on at least the sides away from the building wall and wherein the front most portion of the said downward periphial extending rim may be pivotable.
