Description

EXTRACTOR ARRANGEMENT FOR WATER CLOSET This invention relates to an extractor fan for a water closet.
According to the present invention a water closet including a bowl having a rim and a soil pipe outlet, incorporates a plurality of apertures located upon or adjacent the rim, a duct communicating between said apertures and said outlet and extractor means arranged to draw air through the apertures and into the outlet via said duct.
The rim may be hollow, a multiplicity of apertures being arranged around the inner surface of the rim. The duct may communicate with the rear of the rim, the apertures increasing in size towards the front of the rim to ensure collection of even quantities of air from all parts of the circumference of the rim. Alternatively the duct may be located in a structure mounted upon the rim, for example within a seat.
Use of the invention facilitates removal of foul air from the bowl of the water closet.
The invention is further described by means of example and not in any limitative sense with reference to the accompanying drawing which is a cross-section through a water closet in accordance with this invention.
The Figure shows a bowl 1 of a water closet having a rim 2. A cistern 3 is connected to the rim in the usual way. A duct 4 extends circumferentially within the rim 2 and communicates with the interior of the bowl 1 by a multiplicity of apertures 5. The duct 4 is connected to an electric extractor fan 6, the outlet of which is connected by a duct 7 to the outlet to the soil stack 8. A non return valve (not shown) is provided in the duct 7.
The fan 6 is actuated by a pressure sensitive switch (not shown) connected to the toilet seat and arranged to be sensitive to the weight of a seated user. Alternative actuation means may be employed. A delay arrangement may allow the fan to continue working for a short period after the switch is deactivated.
In an alternative arrangement a single annular slot may extend circumferentially of the rim.
