Couplings, automatic. -In a coupler for railway and like vehicles in which the connection is effected by means of a locking bar adapted to slide, in the coupler head, as described in Specifications 16063/13, 161,837, 164,850, 176,086, and 187,020, means for preventing the unintended displacement of the bar into the uncoupling position comprise a latch pivoted to the locking bar and provided with a stop normally preventing this displacement by engaging with a fixed abutment formed by or provided on the coupler head, but which when manually rotated about its pivot allows the withdrawal of the bar. Fig. 1 shows the latch 10 applied to the wedge-shaped locking bar 7 of a rotary disc-hook coupler, the latch having been turned about its horizontal axis so that the tail 26, Fig. 3, bears against the side 27 of the coupler head and prevenrs movement of the locking bar. The end of the locking bar 7 is perforated to receive a pin 16 provided with trunnions 14 and secured to the bar by a cotter 24. The latch 10 is provided with inclined slots 12, the ends of which form bearings for the trunnions 14, and a palm-piece 11 for pushing the wedge out of engagement when the latch is turned into the vertical position, Fig. 3.
