Abstract
A portable hand held audio communicator system to improve reception of the spoken word, music and other sounds to a deaf person comprises a body, fitted with an extendable hand grip, and containing a battery powered amplifier wedged within the body. Connected to said amplifier is a plastic tube 22 of indefinite length for transmission of sound to listeners via an ear piece 23. The instrument is particularly helpful when confidentiality is required and when communicating with a counter clerk ensconced behind a glass screen, the instrument may be inserted through the counter cash slot for convenient conversation. Interchangeable ear moulds, a calliper clip and a multi-inlet-outlet connection are disclosed. <IMAGE>
Description
AUDIO COMMUNICATOR SYSTEM
I, Frederick Albert Carey, a British subject of 402 Swindon
Road, Cheltenham, Glos., do hereby declare the Invention for which I pray that a patent may be granted to me and the method by which it is to be performed to be particularly described in and by the following statement.
The invention relates to a portable Audio Communicator System as shown on drawings 1 and 2 and sets out to improve reception of the spoken word; music and other natural sounds to a deaf person or persons; neither loud speech or lip reading is essential to the system which permits of natural conversation between participants. It is particularly useful when a deaf person seeks to communicate with a counter clerk ensconced behind a protective glass screen where the Communicator may be inserted through the counter cash slot for convenient conversation.
Weighing approximately loz., and measuring approximately 100 x 22 x 12mm the instrument would fit easily into a coat pocket or handbag.
According to the invention the Audio Communicator System comprises 10 an enclosed rectangular body containing a mercury battery powered amplifierl5 which would be attached to one end of plastic tube22 of indeterminate length and terminated at the outward end with an ear piece. 23a or 23b or Fig. 6 or Fig. 7 or connected to Fig. 8.
Having now described and ascertained the nature and purpose of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed
Claims (8)
- I declare that what I claim is: l. An Audio Communicator System comprising a channel shaped body10 containing a mercury battery powered amplifier15 15 containing amplifier connected to a plastic tube22 of indeterminate length terminating at the opposite end of said tube with an ear piece 23a and 23b or a calliper twin set Fig. 6 or hand grip Fig. 7 or multi connector Fig. 8.
- 2. An Audio Communicator System according to claim 1 which is constructed of press formed aluminium sheet or extruded sections or extruded or moulded plastic comprising in combination an oblong shaped body10 rectangular in sections and enclosed at both ends 13 and 14, the said body being partly cut-away 15 along the top face and two sides to admit amplifier
- 3.An Audio Communicator System according to claims 1 and 2 whereto a hinged cover is connected to body10 by means of a spindlel8 extending transversely the forward end of the said body, the said hinged cover being pivotable through an arc of 90 degrees; an aperture26 would be installed to the top face of said cover so shaped to fit outer case of amplifierl5 and secure the same in position, the said aperture would expose the volume controll6 for easy adjustment when the instrument is in use. At the forward end of the cover a friction dimple would be installed on each side of said cover to engage matching recesses in body 10. A finger liftl9 is installed at the forward end of said cover.
- 4. An Audio Communicator System according to claims 1, 2 and 3 in which the forward end panell3 is perforatedl7 and installed to admit sound waves to Audio Unit within the bodyl0 The rear end panel14 is similarly perforated to admit plastic tube22 for connection to amplifier15
- 5. An Audio Communicator System according to all previous claims where the rear end of body is partly enclosed by a sliding and extendable channel shaped hand grip12 extension of said hand grip is controlled by a screw20 operating within an elongated slot24.
- 6. An Audio Communicator System according to all previous claims wherein is installed a mercury battery powered amplifier unity5 to wedge between two sides of said body and rest across 25 a rubber mount
- 7. An Audio Communicator System according to all previous claims is suspendable by means of a cord28 attached to forward end of body.
- 8. An Audio Communicator System according to all previous claims is compact and portable within a coat pocket or handbag. The following describes the various embodiments of the invention reference being made to the accompanying drawings 1 and 2 - Figs 1 to 8 inclusive.Drg.
